Isaiah 5:1-4

The Vineyard of the Lord Destroyed

1 Let me sing for my beloved
my love song concerning his vineyard:
My beloved had aa vineyard
on a very fertile hill.
2He dug it and cleared it of stones,
and planted it with bchoice vines;
he built a watchtower in the midst of it,
and hewed out a wine vat in it;
and che looked for it to yield grapes,
but it yielded wild grapes.
3 And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem
and men of Judah,
judge between me and my vineyard.
4 dWhat more was there to do for my vineyard,
that I have not done in it?
eWhen I looked for it to yield grapes,
why did it yield wild grapes?

Ezekiel 15:2-8

2 fSon of man, how does gthe wood of the vine surpass any wood, the vine branch that is among the trees of the forest? 3Is wood taken from it to make anything? Do people take ha peg from it to hang any vessel on it? 4 iBehold, it is given to the fire for fuel. When the fire has consumed both ends of it, and the middle of it is charred, is it useful for anything? 5 jBehold, when it was whole, it was used for nothing. How much less, when the fire has consumed it and it is charred, can it ever be used for anything! 6Therefore thus says the Lord God: kLike the wood of the vine among the trees of the forest, lwhich I have given to the fire for fuel, so have I given up the inhabitants of Jerusalem. 7 mAnd I will set my face against them. Though nthey escape from the fire, the fire shall yet consume them, oand you will know that I am the Lord, pwhen I set my face against them. 8 qAnd I will make the land desolate, because rthey have acted faithlessly, declares the Lord God.”

Ezekiel 17:6

6and it sprouted and became a slow tspreading vine, and its branches turned toward him, and its roots remained where it stood. So it became a vine and produced branches and put out boughs.

Matthew 21:33-41

The Parable of the Tenants

33 uHear another parable. There was a master of a house who planted va vineyard wand put a fence around it and dug a winepress in it and built a tower and xleased it to tenants, and ywent into another country. 34When the season for fruit drew near, he sent his servants
Greek bondservants; also verses 35, 36
to the tenants aato get his fruit.
35 abAnd the tenants took his servants and beat one, killed another, and acstoned another. 36 adAgain he sent other servants, more than the first. And they did the same to them. 37Finally he sent his son to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’ 38But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves, aeThis is the heir. Come, aflet us kill him and have his inheritance.’ 39And they took him and agthrew him out of the vineyard and killed him. 40 ahWhen therefore the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?” 41They said to him, ai“He will put those wretches to a miserable death and ajlet out the vineyard to other tenants who will give him the fruits in their seasons.”
