Isaiah 5:1-6

The Vineyard of the Lord Destroyed

1 Let me sing for my beloved
my love song concerning his vineyard:
My beloved had aa vineyard
on a very fertile hill.
2He dug it and cleared it of stones,
and planted it with bchoice vines;
he built a watchtower in the midst of it,
and hewed out a wine vat in it;
and che looked for it to yield grapes,
but it yielded wild grapes.
3 And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem
and men of Judah,
judge between me and my vineyard.
4 dWhat more was there to do for my vineyard,
that I have not done in it?
eWhen I looked for it to yield grapes,
why did it yield wild grapes?
5 And now I will tell you
what I will do to my vineyard.
I will remove fits hedge,
and it shall be devoured;
Or grazed over; compare Exodus 22:5

hI will break down its wall,
and it shall be trampled down.
6I will make it a waste;
it shall not be pruned or hoed,
and ibriers and thorns shall grow up;
jI will also command the clouds
that they rain no rain upon it.

Isaiah 5:24-25

24 Therefore, kas the tongue of fire devours the stubble,
and as dry grass sinks down in the flame,
so ltheir root will be mas rottenness,
and their blossom go up like dust;
for they have nrejected the law of the Lord of hosts,
and have odespised the word of the Holy One of Israel.
25Therefore pthe anger of the Lord was kindled against his people,
and he stretched out his hand against them and struck them,
and qthe mountains quaked;
and their corpses were ras refuse
in the midst of the streets.
sFor all this his anger has not turned away,
and his hand is stretched out still.

Jeremiah 4:7

7 tA lion has gone up from his thicket,
a destroyer of nations has set out;
he has gone out from his place
to make your land a waste;
your cities will be ruins
uwithout inhabitant.

Jeremiah 7:20

20Therefore thus says the Lord God: Behold, vmy anger and my wrath will be poured out on this place, upon man and beast, upon the trees of the field and the fruit of the ground; wit will burn and not be quenched.”

Jeremiah 21:7

7Afterward, declares the Lord, xI will give Zedekiah king of Judah and his servants and the people in this city who survive the pestilence, sword, and famine into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and into the hand of their enemies, into the hand of those who seek their lives. He shall strike them down with the edge of the sword. yHe shall not pity them or spare them or have compassion.’

Jeremiah 24:8-10

8But thus says the Lord: Like zthe bad figs that are so bad they cannot be eaten, so will I treat aaZedekiah the king of Judah, his officials, the remnant of Jerusalem who remain in this land, and those who abdwell in the land of Egypt. 9I will make them aca horror
Compare Septuagint; Hebrew  horror for evil
to all the kingdoms of the earth, to be aea reproach, afa byword, aga taunt, and aha curse in all the places where I shall drive them.
10And I will send aisword, famine, and pestilence upon them, until they shall be utterly destroyed from the land that I gave to them and their fathers.”

Ezekiel 15:2

2 ajSon of man, how does akthe wood of the vine surpass any wood, the vine branch that is among the trees of the forest?

Ezekiel 17:3-10

3say, Thus says the Lord God: alA great eagle amwith great wings and long pinions, anrich in plumage of many colors, came aoto Lebanon apand took the top of the cedar. 4He broke off the topmost of its young twigs and carried it to a land of trade and set it in a city of merchants. 5Then he took of the seed of the land aqand planted it in fertile soil.
Hebrew  in a field of seed
He placed it beside abundant waters. asHe set it like a willow twig,
6and it sprouted and became a atlow auspreading vine, and its branches turned toward him, and its roots remained where it stood. So it became a vine and produced branches and put out boughs.

7 av“And there was another great eagle with great wings and much plumage, awand behold, this vine bent its roots toward him and shot forth its branches toward him from axthe bed where it was planted, that he might water it. 8 ayIt had been planted on good soil by abundant waters, that it might produce branches and bear fruit and become a noble vine.

9Say, Thus says the Lord God: azWill it thrive? Will he not pull up its roots and cut off its fruit, so that it withers, so that all its fresh sprouting leaves wither? It will not take a strong arm or many people to pull it from its roots. 10Behold, it is planted; will it thrive? baWill it not utterly wither when the east wind strikes it—wither away on the bed where it sprouted?”

Ezekiel 20:47-48

47Say to the forest of the Negeb, Hear the word of the Lord: Thus says the Lord God, Behold, bbI will kindle a fire in you, and it shall devour every bcgreen tree in you and every bddry tree. The blazing flame shall not be quenched, and beall faces from south to north shall be scorched by it. 48 bfAll flesh shall see that I the Lord have kindled it; it shall not be quenched.”
