Isaiah 5:1-7

The Vineyard of the Lord Destroyed

1 Let me sing for my beloved
my love song concerning his vineyard:
My beloved had aa vineyard
on a very fertile hill.
2He dug it and cleared it of stones,
and planted it with bchoice vines;
he built a watchtower in the midst of it,
and hewed out a wine vat in it;
and che looked for it to yield grapes,
but it yielded wild grapes.
3 And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem
and men of Judah,
judge between me and my vineyard.
4 dWhat more was there to do for my vineyard,
that I have not done in it?
eWhen I looked for it to yield grapes,
why did it yield wild grapes?
5 And now I will tell you
what I will do to my vineyard.
I will remove fits hedge,
and it shall be devoured;
Or grazed over; compare Exodus 22:5

hI will break down its wall,
and it shall be trampled down.
6I will make it a waste;
it shall not be pruned or hoed,
and ibriers and thorns shall grow up;
jI will also command the clouds
that they rain no rain upon it.
7 kFor the vineyard of the Lord of hosts
is the house of Israel,
and the men of Judah
are his pleasant planting;
and he looked for justice,
but behold, bloodshed;
The Hebrew words for  justice and  bloodshed sound alike

for righteousness,
but behold, an outcry!
The Hebrew words for  righteous and  outcry sound alike

Isaiah 27:2-3

2 In that day,
n“A pleasant vineyard,
Many Hebrew manuscripts  A vineyard of wine
psing of it!
3I, the Lord, am its keeper;
every moment I water it.
Lest anyone punish it,
I keep it night and day;

Jeremiah 2:21

21 qYet I planted you a choice vine,
wholly of pure seed.
rHow then have you turned degenerate
and become a wild vine?

Ezekiel 15:6

6Therefore thus says the Lord God: sLike the wood of the vine among the trees of the forest, twhich I have given to the fire for fuel, so have I given up the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

Ezekiel 17:6

6and it sprouted and became a ulow vspreading vine, and its branches turned toward him, and its roots remained where it stood. So it became a vine and produced branches and put out boughs.

Ezekiel 19:10

10 Your mother was wlike a vine in a vineyard
Some Hebrew manuscripts; most Hebrew manuscripts  in your blood

planted by the water,
yfruitful and full of branches
zby reason of abundant water.

Matthew 21:33-41

The Parable of the Tenants

33 aaHear another parable. There was a master of a house who planted aba vineyard acand put a fence around it and dug a winepress in it and built a tower and adleased it to tenants, and aewent into another country. 34When the season for fruit drew near, he sent his servants
Greek bondservants; also verses 35, 36
to the tenants agto get his fruit.
35 ahAnd the tenants took his servants and beat one, killed another, and aistoned another. 36 ajAgain he sent other servants, more than the first. And they did the same to them. 37Finally he sent his son to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’ 38But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves, akThis is the heir. Come, allet us kill him and have his inheritance.’ 39And they took him and amthrew him out of the vineyard and killed him. 40 anWhen therefore the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?” 41They said to him, ao“He will put those wretches to a miserable death and aplet out the vineyard to other tenants who will give him the fruits in their seasons.”
