and shrewd in their own sight!

Isaiah 28:14

who rule this people in Jerusalem!

Isaiah 29:14-19

14therefore, behold, cI will again
do wonderful things with this people,
with wonder upon wonder;
and dthe wisdom of their wise men shall perish,
and the discernment of their discerning men shall be hidden.”
15 Ah, eyou who hide deep from the Lord your counsel,
whose deeds are fin the dark,
and who say, “Who sees us? Who knows us?”
16 gYou turn things upside down!
Shall the potter be regarded as the clay,
that the thing made should say of its maker,
“He did not make me”;
or the thing formed say of him who formed it,
“He has no understanding”?
17 Is it not yet a very little while
huntil Lebanon shall be turned into a fruitful field,
and the fruitful field shall be regarded as a forest?
18In that day ithe deaf shall hear
jthe words of a book,
and out of their gloom and darkness
kthe eyes of the blind shall see.
19 lThe meek shall obtain fresh joy in the Lord,
and the poor among mankind shall exult in the Holy One of Israel.

Isaiah 65:5

5who say, “Keep to yourself,
do not come near me, for I am too holy for you.”
mThese are a smoke in my nostrils,
a fire that burns all the day.

John 9:34

34They answered him, nYou were born in utter sin, and would you teach us?” And they ocast him out.

John 9:40

40Some of the Pharisees near him heard these things, and said to him, pAre we also blind?”

1 Corinthians 1:20-21

20 qWhere is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? rHas not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach
Or  the folly of preaching
to save those who believe.

1 Corinthians 3:18-20

18 tLet no one deceive himself. uIf anyone among you thinks that he is wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. 19For vthe wisdom of this world is folly with God. For it is written, w“He catches the wise in their craftiness,” 20and again, x“The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.”
