Isaiah 5:25-30

25Therefore athe anger of the Lord was kindled against his people,
and he stretched out his hand against them and struck them,
and bthe mountains quaked;
and their corpses were cas refuse
in the midst of the streets.
dFor all this his anger has not turned away,
and his hand is stretched out still.
26 He will eraise a signal for nations far away,
and fwhistle for them gfrom the ends of the earth;
and behold, quickly, speedily they come!
27 hNone is weary, none stumbles,
none slumbers or sleeps,
not a waistband is loose,
not a sandal strap broken;
28 itheir arrows are sharp,
all their bows bent,
their horseshoofs seem like flint,
and their wheels jlike the whirlwind.
29Their roaring is like a lion,
like young lions they roar;
they growl and kseize their prey;
they carry it off, and none can rescue.
30They will growl over it on that day,
like the growling of the sea.
And if one looks to the land,
behold, ldarkness and distress;
and the light is darkened by its clouds.

Isaiah 8:7-8

7therefore, behold, the Lord is bringing up against them mthe waters of nthe River, mighty and many, the king of Assyria and all his glory. And it owill rise over all its channels and go over all its banks, 8and it will sweep on into Judah, it will overflow and pass on, preaching even to the neck, and its qoutspread wings will fill the breadth of your land, rO Immanuel.”

Lamentations 2:15-16

15 All who pass along the way
clap their hands at you;
tthey hiss and wag their heads
at the daughter of Jerusalem:
“Is this the city that was called
uthe perfection of beauty,
vthe joy of all the earth?”
16 wAll your enemies
rail against you;
they hiss, they gnash their teeth,
they cry: “We xhave swallowed her!
Ah, this is the day we longed for;
now we have it; ywe see it!”

Joel 3:2-15

2 zI will gather all the nations and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat. And aaI will enter into judgment with them there, on behalf of my people and my heritage Israel, because they have scattered them among the nations and have divided up my land, 3and abhave cast lots for my people, and have traded a boy for a prostitute, and have sold a girl for wine and have drunk it.

4What are you to me, acO Tyre and Sidon, and all adthe regions of Philistia? Are you paying me back for something? If you are paying me back, aeI will return your payment on your own head swiftly and speedily. 5For afyou have taken my silver and my gold, and have carried my rich treasures into your temples.
Or palaces
6You have sold ahthe people of Judah and Jerusalem to the Greeks in order to remove them far from their own border. 7Behold, I will stir them up from the place to which you have sold them, and aiI will return your payment on your own head. 8I will sell your sons and your daughters into the hand of the people of Judah, and they will sell them to the ajSabeans, to a nation far away, for the Lord has spoken.”

9 Proclaim this among the nations:
akConsecrate for war;
Or  Consecrate a war

stir up the mighty men.
Let all the men of war draw near;
let them come up.
10 amBeat your plowshares into swords,
and anyour pruning hooks into spears;
let the weak say, “I am a warrior.”
11 aoHasten and come,
all you surrounding nations,
and gather yourselves there.
apBring down your warriors, O Lord.
12Let the nations stir themselves up
and come up to aqthe Valley of Jehoshaphat;
arfor there I will sit to judge
all the surrounding nations.
13 asPut in the sickle,
atfor the harvest is ripe.
auGo in, tread,
avfor the winepress is full.
The vats overflow,
for their evil is great.
14 Multitudes, multitudes,
in the valley of decision!
For awthe day of the Lord is near
in the valley of decision.
15 axThe sun and the moon are darkened,
and the stars withdraw their shining.
