Isaiah 56:10-12

10 aHis watchmen are blind;
they are all without knowledge;
they are all silent bdogs;
they cannot bark,
dreaming, lying down,
loving to slumber.
11 cThe dogs have a mighty appetite;
they never have enough.
But dthey are shepherds who have no understanding;
they have all turned to their own way,
eeach to his own gain, one and all.
12 fCome,” they say, “let me get wine;
let us fill ourselves with strong drink;
gand tomorrow will be like this day,
great beyond measure.”

Jeremiah 2:8

8The priests did not say, ‘Where is the Lord?’
hThose who handle the law did not know me;
ithe shepherds
Or rulers
transgressed against me;
kthe prophets prophesied by Baal
and went after lthings that do not profit.

Jeremiah 5:31

31 mthe prophets prophesy falsely,
and the priests rule at their direction;
nmy people love to have it so,
but what will you do when the end comes?

Jeremiah 8:9

9 oThe wise men shall be put to shame;
they shall be dismayed pand taken;
behold, they have rejected the word of the Lord,
so what wisdom is in them?

Jeremiah 10:8

8 qThey are both rstupid and foolish;
the instruction of idols is but wood!

Jeremiah 10:14

14 sEvery man is stupid and without knowledge;
tevery goldsmith is put to shame by his idols,
for his images are false,
uand there is no breath in them.

Jeremiah 12:10

10Many shepherds have destroyed my vineyard;
vthey have trampled down my portion;
they have made my pleasant portion
a desolate wilderness.

Jeremiah 23:9-32

Lying Prophets

9Concerning the prophets:

wMy heart is broken within me;
xall my bones shake;
I am like a drunken man,
like a man overcome by wine,
because of the Lord
and because of his holy words.
10 yFor the land is full of adulterers;
zbecause of the curse aathe land mourns,
and abthe pastures of the wilderness are dried up.
acTheir course is evil,
and their might is not right.
11 adBoth prophet and priest are ungodly;
even aein my house I have found their evil,

declares the Lord.
12 afTherefore their way shall be to them
like slippery paths agin the darkness,
into which they shall be driven and fall,
for I will bring disaster upon them
ahin the year of their punishment,

declares the Lord.
13In the prophets of aiSamaria
ajI saw an unsavory thing:
akthey prophesied by Baal
aland led my people Israel astray.
14But in the prophets of Jerusalem
I have seen a horrible thing:
amthey commit adultery and walk in lies;
anthey strengthen the hands of evildoers,
so that no one turns from his evil;
aoall of them have become like Sodom to me,
apand its inhabitants like Gomorrah.”
15Therefore thus says the Lord of hosts concerning the prophets:
aqBehold, I will feed them with bitter food
arand give them aspoisoned water to drink,
for from the prophets of Jerusalem
ungodliness has gone out into all the land.”
16Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you, atfilling you with vain hopes. auThey speak visions of their own minds, not from the mouth of the Lord. 17They say continually to those who despise the word of the Lord, av‘It shall be well with you’; and to everyone who awstubbornly follows his own heart, they say, axNo disaster shall come upon you.’”

18 For aywho among them has stood in the council of the Lord
to see and to hear his word,
or who has paid attention to his word and listened?
19 azBehold, the storm of the Lord!
Wrath has gone forth,
baa whirling tempest;
it will burst upon the head of the wicked.
20 bbThe anger of the Lord will not turn back
until he has executed and bcaccomplished
the intents of his heart.
bdIn the latter days you will understand it clearly.
21 be“I did not send the prophets,
yet they ran;
I did not speak to them,
yet they prophesied.
22 bfBut if they had stood in my council,
then they would have proclaimed my words to my people,
bgand they would have turned them from their evil way,
and bhfrom the evil of their deeds.
23 bi“Am I a God at hand, declares the Lord, and not a God far away? 24 bjCan a man hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him? declares the Lord. bkDo I not fill heaven and earth? declares the Lord. 25I have heard what the prophets have said blwho prophesy lies in my name, saying, bm‘I have dreamed, I have dreamed!’ 26How long shall there be lies in the heart of bnthe prophets who prophesy lies, and who prophesy the deceit of their own heart, 27who think to make my people forget my name boby their dreams that they tell one another, even as their bpfathers forgot my name for Baal? 28 bqLet the prophet who has a dream brtell the dream, but let him who has my word speak my word faithfully. bsWhat has straw in common with wheat? declares the Lord. 29 btIs not my word like fire, declares the Lord, and bulike a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces? 30 bvTherefore, behold, I am against the prophets, declares the Lord, who steal my words from one another. 31Behold, I am against the prophets, declares the Lord, who use their tongues and declare, ‘declares the Lord.’ 32Behold, I am against those who prophesy lying dreams, declares the Lord, and who tell them and bwlead my people astray by their lies and their recklessness, when bxI did not send them or charge them. So they do not profit this people at all, declares the Lord.

Ezekiel 22:25-30

25 byThe conspiracy of her prophets in her midst is bzlike a roaring lion catearing the prey; they have devoured human lives; they have taken treasure and precious things; they have made many widows in her midst. 26 cbHer priests cchave done violence to my law and cdhave profaned my holy things. ceThey have made no distinction between the holy and the common, neither have they taught the difference between the unclean and the clean, and cfthey have disregarded my Sabbaths, cgso that I am profaned among them. 27 chHer princes in her midst are like wolves citearing the prey, cjshedding blood, destroying lives to get dishonest gain. 28And ckher prophets have smeared whitewash for them, clseeing false visions and divining lies for them, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord God,’ when the Lord has not spoken. 29The people of the land cmhave practiced extortion and committed robbery. They have oppressed the poor and needy, and cnhave extorted from the sojourner without justice. 30 coAnd I sought for a man among them cpwho should build up the wall cqand stand in the breach before me for the land, that I should not destroy it, but I found none.
