Isaiah 56:9-12

Israel’s Irresponsible Leaders

9 aAll you beasts of the field, come to devour
all you beasts in the forest.
10 bHis watchmen are blind;
they are all without knowledge;
they are all silent cdogs;
they cannot bark,
dreaming, lying down,
loving to slumber.
11 dThe dogs have a mighty appetite;
they never have enough.
But ethey are shepherds who have no understanding;
they have all turned to their own way,
feach to his own gain, one and all.
12 gCome,” they say, “let me get wine;
let us fill ourselves with strong drink;
hand tomorrow will be like this day,
great beyond measure.”

Isaiah 57:17

17Because of the iniquity of his iunjust gain I was angry,
I struck him; I hid my face and was angry,
but he went on backsliding in the way of his own heart.

Jeremiah 8:10

10 jTherefore I will give their wives to others
and their fields to conquerors,
because from the least to the greatest
everyone kis greedy for unjust gain;
from prophet to priest,
everyone deals falsely.

Jeremiah 14:18

18 lIf I go out into the field,
behold, those pierced by the sword!
mAnd if I enter the city,
behold, the diseases of famine!
nFor both prophet and priest ply their trade through the land
and have no knowledge.’”

Jeremiah 22:17

17But you have eyes and heart
only for your dishonest gain,
ofor shedding innocent blood,
and for practicing oppression and violence.”

Jeremiah 23:11

11 pBoth prophet and priest are ungodly;
even qin my house I have found their evil,

declares the Lord.

Ezekiel 22:12

12In you rthey take bribes to shed blood; syou take interest and profit
That is, profit that comes from charging interest to the poor (compare Leviticus 25:36)
and make gain of your neighbors by extortion; but ume you have forgotten, declares the Lord God.

Ezekiel 33:31

31 vAnd they come to you as people come, and they sit before you as my people, and they hear what you say but they will not do it; for wwith lustful talk in their mouths they act; their heart is set on their gain.
