Isaiah 56:9-12

Israel’s Irresponsible Leaders

9 aAll you beasts of the field, come to devour
all you beasts in the forest.
10 bHis watchmen are blind;
they are all without knowledge;
they are all silent cdogs;
they cannot bark,
dreaming, lying down,
loving to slumber.
11 dThe dogs have a mighty appetite;
they never have enough.
But ethey are shepherds who have no understanding;
they have all turned to their own way,
feach to his own gain, one and all.
12 gCome,” they say, “let me get wine;
let us fill ourselves with strong drink;
hand tomorrow will be like this day,
great beyond measure.”

Jeremiah 10:21

21 iFor the shepherds jare stupid
and do not inquire of the Lord;
therefore they have not prospered,
kand all their flock is scattered.

Jeremiah 23:1-2

The Righteous Branch

1 lWoe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture!” declares the Lord. 2Therefore thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, concerning mthe shepherds who care for my people: “You have scattered my flock and have driven them away, and you have not attended to them. nBehold, I will attend to you for your evil deeds, declares the Lord.

Jeremiah 50:6

6 o“My people have been lost sheep. pTheir shepherds have led them astray, turning them away on the mountains. From mountain to hill they have gone. They have forgotten their fold.

Ezekiel 34:2

2 qSon of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel; prophesy, and say to them, even to the shepherds, Thus says the Lord God: rAh, shepherds of Israel swho have been feeding yourselves! tShould not shepherds feed the sheep?

Ezekiel 34:7-10

7Therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the Lord: 8 uAs I live, declares the Lord God, surely because vmy sheep have become a prey, and my sheep have become food for all the wild beasts, since there was no shepherd, and because my shepherds have not searched for my sheep, but the shepherds have fed themselves, and have not fed my sheep, 9therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the Lord: 10Thus says the Lord God, wBehold, I am against the shepherds, and xI will require my sheep at their hand and yput a stop to their feeding the sheep. zNo longer shall the shepherds feed themselves. aaI will rescue my sheep from their mouths, that they may not be food for them.

Zechariah 11:5-8

5 abThose who buy them slaughter them and go unpunished, and those who sell them say, ‘Blessed be the Lord, acI have become rich,’ and their own shepherds have no pity on them. 6For adI will no longer have pity on the inhabitants of this land, declares the Lord. Behold, I will cause each of them to fall into the hand of his neighbor, and each into the hand of his king, and they shall crush the land, and I will deliver none from their hand.”

7 aeSo I became the shepherd of the flock doomed to be slaughtered by the sheep traders. And I took two staffs, one I named afFavor, the other I named agUnion. ahAnd I tended the sheep. 8In one month aiI destroyed the three shepherds. But I became impatient with them, and they also detested me.

Zechariah 11:17

17 ajWoe to my worthless shepherd,
akwho deserts the flock!
May the sword strike his arm
and alhis right eye!
Let his arm be wholly withered,
his right eye utterly blinded!”
