and his righteousness upheld him.

Jeremiah 5:1

Jerusalem Refused to Repent

1 bRun to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem,
look and take note!
Search her squares to see
cif you can find a man,
one who does justice
and seeks truth,

Jeremiah 5:4-5

4 Then I said, “These are only the poor;
they have no sense;
efor they do not know the way of the Lord,
the justice of their God.
5I will go to the great
and will speak to them,
for they know the way of the Lord,
the justice of their God.”
fBut they all alike had broken the yoke;
they had burst the bonds.

Ezekiel 22:29-31

29The people of the land ghave practiced extortion and committed robbery. They have oppressed the poor and needy, and hhave extorted from the sojourner without justice. 30 iAnd I sought for a man among them jwho should build up the wall kand stand in the breach before me for the land, that I should not destroy it, but I found none. 31Therefore lI have poured out my indignation upon them. I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath. I have returned mtheir way upon their heads, declares the Lord God.”

Micah 7:2-5

2 nThe godly has perished from the earth,
and othere is no one upright among mankind;
pthey all lie in wait for blood,
and qeach hunts the other with a net.
3 rTheir hands are on what is evil, to do it well;
sthe prince and tthe judge ask for a bribe,
and the great man utters the evil desire of his soul;
thus they weave it together.
4The best of them is ulike a brier,
the most upright of them a thorn hedge.
The day of vyour watchmen, of your punishment, has come;
wnow their confusion is at hand.
5 xPut no trust in a neighbor;
have no confidence in a friend;
guard ythe doors of your mouth
from her who lies in your arms;
