Isaiah 59:3-15

3 aFor your hands are defiled with blood
and your fingers with iniquity;
your lips have spoken lies;
your tongue mutters wickedness.
4 bNo one enters suit justly;
no one goes to law honestly;
they rely on empty pleas, they speak lies,
cthey conceive mischief and give birth to iniquity.
5They hatch adderseggs;
they weave the spider’s web;
he who eats their eggs dies,
and from one that is crushed a viper is hatched.
6 dTheir webs will not serve as clothing;
men will not cover themselves with what they make.
Their works are works of iniquity,
and deeds of violence are in their hands.
7 eTheir feet run to evil,
and they are swift to shed innocent blood;
their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity;
desolation and destruction are in their highways.
8The way of peace they do not know,
and there is no justice in their paths;
they have made their roads crooked;
fno one who treads on them knows peace.
9 Therefore justice is far from us,
and righteousness does not overtake us;
gwe hope for light, and behold, darkness,
and for brightness, but we walk in gloom.
10 hWe grope for the wall like the blind;
we grope like those who have no eyes;
we stumble at noon as in the twilight,
iamong those in full vigor we are like dead men.
11We all growl like bears;
jwe moan and moan like doves;
kwe hope for justice, but there is none;
for salvation, but it is far from us.
12For our transgressions are multiplied before you,
and our sins testify against us;
for our transgressions are with us,
and we know our iniquities:
13transgressing, and denying the Lord,
and turning back from following our God,
lspeaking oppression and revolt,
conceiving and uttering from the heart lying words.

Judgment and Redemption

14 mJustice is turned back,
and righteousness stands far away;
for truth has stumbled in the public squares,
and uprightness cannot enter.
15Truth is lacking,
and he who departs from evil makes himself a prey.
The Lord saw it, and it displeased him
Hebrew  and it was evil in his eyes

that there was no justice.

Jeremiah 9:2-6

2
Ch 9:1 in Hebrew
Oh that I had in the desert
a travelerslodging place,
that I might leave my people
and go away from them!
For they are all padulterers,
a company of qtreacherous men.
3 rThey bend their tongue like a bow;
falsehood and not truth has grown strong
Septuagint; Hebrew  and not for truth they have grown strong
in the land;
for they proceed from evil to evil,
tand they do not know me, declares the Lord.
4 uLet everyone beware of his neighbor,
and put no trust in any brother,
for every vbrother is a deceiver,
and every neighbor wgoes about as a slanderer.
5Everyone deceives his neighbor,
and no one speaks the truth;
they have taught their tongue to speak lies;
they weary themselves committing iniquity.
6Heaping oppression upon oppression, and deceit upon deceit,
xthey refuse to know me, declares the Lord.

Jeremiah 9:8

8 yTheir tongue is a deadly arrow;
zit speaks deceitfully;
with his mouth aaeach speaks peace to his neighbor,
but in his heart abhe plans an ambush for him.

Hosea 7:1

1 acwhen I would heal Israel,
the iniquity of Ephraim is revealed,
and the evil deeds of adSamaria,
for aethey deal falsely;
the thief breaks in,
and the bandits raid outside.

Hosea 7:13

13 afWoe to them, for they have strayed from me!
Destruction to them, for they have rebelled against me!
agI would redeem them,
but ahthey speak lies against me.

Romans 3:13

13 aiTheir throat is ajan open grave;
they use their tongues to deceive.”
ak“The venom of asps is under their lips.”
