Isaiah 59:3-5

3 aFor your hands are defiled with blood
and your fingers with iniquity;
your lips have spoken lies;
your tongue mutters wickedness.
4 bNo one enters suit justly;
no one goes to law honestly;
they rely on empty pleas, they speak lies,
cthey conceive mischief and give birth to iniquity.
5They hatch adderseggs;
they weave the spider’s web;
he who eats their eggs dies,
and from one that is crushed a viper is hatched.

Isaiah 59:13-15

13transgressing, and denying the Lord,
and turning back from following our God,

Judgment and Redemption

14 eJustice is turned back,
and righteousness stands far away;
for truth has stumbled in the public squares,
and uprightness cannot enter.
15Truth is lacking,
and he who departs from evil makes himself a prey.
The Lord saw it, and it displeased him
Hebrew  and it was evil in his eyes

that there was no justice.

Jeremiah 9:3-6

3 gThey bend their tongue like a bow;
falsehood and not truth has grown strong
Septuagint; Hebrew  and not for truth they have grown strong
in the land;
for they proceed from evil to evil,
iand they do not know me, declares the Lord.
4 jLet everyone beware of his neighbor,
and put no trust in any brother,
for every kbrother is a deceiver,
and every neighbor lgoes about as a slanderer.
5Everyone deceives his neighbor,
and no one speaks the truth;
they have taught their tongue to speak lies;
they weary themselves committing iniquity.
6Heaping oppression upon oppression, and deceit upon deceit,
mthey refuse to know me, declares the Lord.

Romans 3:13-14

13 nTheir throat is oan open grave;
they use their tongues to deceive.”
p“The venom of asps is under their lips.”
14 qTheir mouth is full of curses and bitterness.”

James 3:5-8

5So also the tongue is a small member, yet rit boasts of great things.

How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire!
6And sthe tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, tstaining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life,
Or wheel of birth
and set on fire by hell.
Greek Gehenna
7For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by mankind, 8but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, wfull of deadly poison.

2 Peter 2:18
