Prophecy Against Edom

12Thus says the Lord God: Because iEdom acted revengefully against the house of Judah and has grievously offended jin taking vengeance on them, 13therefore thus says the Lord God, kI will stretch out my hand against Edom and cut off from it man and beast. And I will make it desolate; from lTeman even to mDedan they shall fall by the sword. 14And I will lay my vengeance upon Edom nby the hand of my people Israel, and they shall do in Edom according to my anger and according to my wrath, and othey shall know my vengeance, declares the Lord God.

Ezekiel 35:3-15

3and say to it, Thus says the Lord God: pBehold, I am against you, Mount Seir, and qI will stretch out my hand against you, rand I will make you a desolation and a waste. 4 sI will lay your cities waste, and you shall become a desolation, and you shall know that I am the Lord. 5Because tyou cherished perpetual enmity and gave over the people of Israel to the power of the sword uat the time of their calamity, vat the time of their final punishment, 6therefore, was I live, declares the Lord God, I will prepare you for blood, and blood shall pursue you; xbecause you did not hate bloodshed, therefore blood shall pursue you. 7 yI will make Mount Seir a waste zand a desolation, and I will cut off from it aaall who come and go. 8And I will fill abits mountains with the slain. On your hills and in your valleys and in all acyour ravines adthose slain with the sword shall fall. 9 aeI will make you a perpetual desolation, and afyour cities shall not be inhabited. Then agyou will know that I am the Lord.

10Because you said, ah‘These two nations and these two countries shall be mine, and aiwe will take possession of them’—although the ajLord was there 11therefore, akas I live, declares the Lord God, I will deal with you alaccording to the anger and amenvy that you showed because of your hatred against them. And anI will make myself known among them, when I judge you. 12And you shall know that I am the Lord.

ao“I have heard all the revilings that you uttered against the mountains of Israel, saying, ‘They are laid desolate; apthey are given us to devour.’
13And aqyou magnified yourselves against me arwith your mouth, and multiplied your words against me; I heard it. 14Thus says the Lord God: asWhile the whole earth rejoices, I will make you desolate. 15As you atrejoiced over the inheritance of the house of Israel, because it was desolate, so I will deal with you; you shall be desolate, auMount Seir, and all Edom, all of it. Then avthey will know that I am the Lord.

Joel 3:19

because they have shed innocent blood in their land.

Amos 1:11-12

11Thus says the Lord:

az“For three transgressions of baEdom,
and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,
bbbecause he pursued his brother with the sword
bcand cast off all pity,
bdand his anger tore perpetually,
beand he kept his wrath forever.
12So I will send a fire upon bfTeman,
and it shall devour the strongholds of bgBozrah.”

Obadiah 8

8 bhWill I not on that day, declares the Lord,
destroy the wise men out of Edom,
and understanding out of biMount Esau?

Obadiah 10

Edom’s Violence Against Jacob

10 bjBecause of the violence done to your brother Jacob,
shame shall cover you,
bkand you shall be cut off forever.

Obadiah 12-18

12 blBut do not gloat over the day of your brother
in the day of his misfortune;
bmdo not rejoice over the people of Judah
in the day of their ruin;
bndo not boast
Hebrew  do not enlarge your mouth

in the day of distress.
13 bpDo not enter the gate of my people
in the day of their calamity;
bqdo not gloat over his disaster
in the day of his calamity;
brdo not loot his wealth
in the day of his calamity.
14 bsDo not stand at the crossroads
to cut off his fugitives;
do not hand over his survivors
in the day of distress.

The Day of the Lord Is Near

15 For btthe day of the Lord is near upon all the nations.
buAs you have done, it shall be done to you;
your deeds shall return on your own head.
16 bvFor as you have drunk on bwmy holy mountain,
so all the nations shall drink continually;
they shall drink and swallow,
and shall be as though they had never been.
17 bxBut in Mount Zion there shall be those who escape,
and it shall be holy,
byand the house of Jacob shall possess their own possessions.
18 bzThe house of Jacob shall be a fire,
and the house of Joseph a flame,
and the house of Esau castubble;
they shall burn them and consume them,
cband there shall be no survivor for the house of Esau,

for the Lord has spoken.

Malachi 1:3-4

3but Esau I have hated. ccI have laid waste his hill country and left his heritage to jackals of the desert.” 4If Edom says, “We are shattered but we will rebuild the ruins,” the Lord of hosts says, “They may build, but I will tear down, and they will be called ‘the wicked country,’ and ‘the people with whom the Lord is angry forever.’”
