Isaiah 8:13-14

13But the Lord of hosts, ahim you shall honor as holy. Let him be your fear, and let him be your dread. 14And he will become a bsanctuary and ca stone of offense and a rock of stumbling to both houses of Israel, a trap and a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

The Rich Man and Lazarus

19There was a rich man who was clothed in hpurple and fine linen and iwho feasted sumptuously every day. 20And at his gate jwas laid a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, 21who desired to be fed with kwhat fell from the rich man’s table. Moreover, even the dogs came and licked his sores. 22The poor man died and was carried by lthe angels mto Abraham’s side.

23and in oHades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and psaw Abraham far off and Lazarus qat his side. 24And he called out, rFather Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and scool my tongue, for tI am in anguish in this flame.’ 25But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that uyou in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner bad things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish.

1 Timothy 6:17-19

17As for the rich in vthis present age, charge them wnot to be haughty, nor xto set their hopes on ythe uncertainty of riches, but on God, zwho richly provides us with everything to enjoy. 18They are to do good, aato be rich in good works, to be generous and abready to share, 19thus acstoring up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may adtake hold of aethat which is truly life.
