Isaiah 9:13-17

13 The people adid not turn to him who struck them,
nor inquire of the Lord of hosts.
14So the Lord cut off from Israel bhead and tail,
palm branch and reed in one day
15 cthe elder and honored man is the head,
and dthe prophet who teaches lies is the tail;
16for those who guide this people have been leading them astray,
and those who are guided by them are swallowed up.
17Therefore the Lord does not erejoice over their young men,
and has no compassion on their fatherless and widows;
for everyone is fgodless and an evildoer,
and every mouth speaks gfolly.
Or  speaks disgraceful things

iFor all this his anger has not turned away,
and his hand is stretched out still.

Jeremiah 6:4-5

for the shadows of evening lengthen!

and destroy her palaces!”

12 lTheir houses shall be turned over to others,
their fields and wives together,
for I will stretch out my hand
against the inhabitants of the land,”

declares the Lord.
13 mFor from the least to the greatest of them,
everyone nis greedy for unjust gain;
and from oprophet to priest,
everyone deals falsely.
14They have healed the wound of my people lightly,
saying, pPeace, peace,’
qwhen there is no peace.
15 rWere they ashamed when they committed abomination?
No, they were not at all ashamed;
they did not know how to blush.
Therefore they shall fall among those who fall;
sat the time that I punish them, they shall be overthrown,”

says the Lord.

because from the least to the greatest
everyone uis greedy for unjust gain;
from prophet to priest,
everyone deals falsely.
11They have healed vthe wound of my people lightly,
saying, ‘Peace, peace,’
when there is no peace.
12Were they ashamed when they committed abomination?
No, wthey were not at all ashamed;
they did not know how to blush.
xTherefore they shall fall among the fallen;
when I punish them, they shall be overthrown,

says the Lord.

For I will pour out their evil upon them.

Hosea 9:7-8

7 acThe days of punishment have come;
the days of recompense have come;
Israel shall know it.
adThe prophet is a fool;
the man of the spirit is mad,
because of your great iniquity
and great hatred.
8The prophet is aethe watchman of Ephraim with my God;
yet afa fowler’s snare is on all his ways,
and hatred in the house of his God.
