and bthe prophet who teaches lies is the tail;

Isaiah 56:10-12

10 cHis watchmen are blind;
they are all without knowledge;
they are all silent ddogs;
they cannot bark,
dreaming, lying down,
loving to slumber.
11 eThe dogs have a mighty appetite;
they never have enough.
But fthey are shepherds who have no understanding;
they have all turned to their own way,
geach to his own gain, one and all.
12 hCome,” they say, “let me get wine;
let us fill ourselves with strong drink;
iand tomorrow will be like this day,
great beyond measure.”

but what will you do when the end comes?

13 lFor from the least to the greatest of them,

Jeremiah 14:13-15

Lying Prophets

13Then I said: “Ah, Lord God, behold, the prophets ssay to them, ‘You shall not see the sword, nor shall you have famine, but I will give you assured peace in this place.’” 14And the Lord said to me: “The tprophets are prophesying lies in my name. uI did not send them, nor did I command them or speak to them. They are prophesying to you a lying vision, vworthless divination, and wthe deceit of their own minds. 15Therefore thus says the Lord concerning the prophets who prophesy in my name although xI did not send them, and who say, ySword and famine shall not come upon this land’: zBy sword and famine those prophets shall be consumed.

Jeremiah 23:9-17

Lying Prophets

9Concerning the prophets:

aaMy heart is broken within me;
aball my bones shake;
I am like a drunken man,
like a man overcome by wine,
because of the Lord
and because of his holy words.
10 acFor the land is full of adulterers;
adbecause of the curse aethe land mourns,
and afthe pastures of the wilderness are dried up.
agTheir course is evil,
and their might is not right.
11 ahBoth prophet and priest are ungodly;
even aiin my house I have found their evil,

declares the Lord.
12 ajTherefore their way shall be to them
like slippery paths akin the darkness,
into which they shall be driven and fall,
for I will bring disaster upon them
alin the year of their punishment,

declares the Lord.
13In the prophets of amSamaria
anI saw an unsavory thing:
aothey prophesied by Baal
apand led my people Israel astray.
14But in the prophets of Jerusalem
I have seen a horrible thing:
aqthey commit adultery and walk in lies;
arthey strengthen the hands of evildoers,
so that no one turns from his evil;
asall of them have become like Sodom to me,
atand its inhabitants like Gomorrah.”
15Therefore thus says the Lord of hosts concerning the prophets:
auBehold, I will feed them with bitter food
avand give them awpoisoned water to drink,
for from the prophets of Jerusalem
ungodliness has gone out into all the land.”
16Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you, axfilling you with vain hopes. ayThey speak visions of their own minds, not from the mouth of the Lord. 17They say continually to those who despise the word of the Lord, az‘It shall be well with you’; and to everyone who bastubbornly follows his own heart, they say, bbNo disaster shall come upon you.’”

Jeremiah 23:25-27

25I have heard what the prophets have said bcwho prophesy lies in my name, saying, bd‘I have dreamed, I have dreamed!’ 26How long shall there be lies in the heart of bethe prophets who prophesy lies, and who prophesy the deceit of their own heart, 27who think to make my people forget my name bfby their dreams that they tell one another, even as their bgfathers forgot my name for Baal?
