Isaiah 9:15-16

15 athe elder and honored man is the head,
and bthe prophet who teaches lies is the tail;
16for those who guide this people have been leading them astray,
and those who are guided by them are swallowed up.

Jeremiah 14:14-15

14And the Lord said to me: “The cprophets are prophesying lies in my name. dI did not send them, nor did I command them or speak to them. They are prophesying to you a lying vision, eworthless divination, and fthe deceit of their own minds. 15Therefore thus says the Lord concerning the prophets who prophesy in my name although gI did not send them, and who say, hSword and famine shall not come upon this land’: iBy sword and famine those prophets shall be consumed.

Jeremiah 23:9-17

Lying Prophets

9Concerning the prophets:

jMy heart is broken within me;
kall my bones shake;
I am like a drunken man,
like a man overcome by wine,
because of the Lord
and because of his holy words.
10 lFor the land is full of adulterers;
mbecause of the curse nthe land mourns,
and othe pastures of the wilderness are dried up.
pTheir course is evil,
and their might is not right.
11 qBoth prophet and priest are ungodly;
even rin my house I have found their evil,

declares the Lord.
12 sTherefore their way shall be to them
like slippery paths tin the darkness,
into which they shall be driven and fall,
for I will bring disaster upon them
uin the year of their punishment,

declares the Lord.
13In the prophets of vSamaria
wI saw an unsavory thing:
xthey prophesied by Baal
yand led my people Israel astray.
14But in the prophets of Jerusalem
I have seen a horrible thing:
zthey commit adultery and walk in lies;
aathey strengthen the hands of evildoers,
so that no one turns from his evil;
aball of them have become like Sodom to me,
acand its inhabitants like Gomorrah.”
15Therefore thus says the Lord of hosts concerning the prophets:
adBehold, I will feed them with bitter food
aeand give them afpoisoned water to drink,
for from the prophets of Jerusalem
ungodliness has gone out into all the land.”
16Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you, agfilling you with vain hopes. ahThey speak visions of their own minds, not from the mouth of the Lord. 17They say continually to those who despise the word of the Lord, ai‘It shall be well with you’; and to everyone who ajstubbornly follows his own heart, they say, akNo disaster shall come upon you.’”

Jeremiah 23:27

27who think to make my people forget my name alby their dreams that they tell one another, even as their amfathers forgot my name for Baal?

Jeremiah 23:32

32Behold, I am against those who prophesy lying dreams, declares the Lord, and who tell them and anlead my people astray by their lies and their recklessness, when aoI did not send them or charge them. So they do not profit this people at all, declares the Lord.

Jeremiah 28:15-17

15And Jeremiah the prophet said to the prophet Hananiah, “Listen, Hananiah, apthe Lord has not sent you, aqand you have made this people trust in a lie. 16Therefore thus says the Lord: ‘Behold, I will remove you from the face of the earth. This year you shall die, arbecause you have uttered rebellion against the Lord.’”

17In that same year, in the seventh month, the prophet Hananiah died.

Jeremiah 29:21-23

21Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, concerning Ahab the son of Kolaiah and Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, aswho are prophesying a lie to you in my name: Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and he shall strike them down before your eyes. 22 atBecause of them authis curse shall be used by all the exiles from Judah in Babylon: “The Lord make you like Zedekiah and Ahab, avwhom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire,” 23because they have done an outrageous thing in Israel, awthey have committed adultery with their neighborswives, and axthey have spoken in my name lying words that I did not command them. ayI am the one who knows, azand I am witness, declares the Lord.’”

Micah 3:11

11 baIts heads give judgment for a bribe;
bbits priests teach for a price;
bcits prophets practice divination for money;
bdyet they lean on the Lord and besay,
“Is not the Lord in the midst of us?
bfNo disaster shall come upon us.”
