to us ba son is given;
cand the government shall be dupon
Or is upon
his shoulder,
and his name shall be called
Or is called

Wonderful gCounselor, hMighty God,
iEverlasting jFather, Prince of kPeace.
7Of the increase of his government and of peace
lthere will be no end,
on the throne of David and over his kingdom,
to establish it and to uphold it

nThe zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.

Isaiah 53

1 oWho has believed what he has heard from us?
Or  Who has believed what we have heard?

And to whom has qthe arm of the Lord been revealed?
2For he grew up before him like a young plant,
rand like a root out of dry ground;
she had no form or majesty that we should look at him,
and no beauty that we should desire him.
3 tHe was despised and rejected
Or forsaken
by men,
a man of sorrows,
Or pains; also verse 4
and acquainted with
Or  and knowing
grief;
Or sickness; also verse 4

and as one from whom men hide their faces
Or  as one who hides his face from us

he was despised, and zwe esteemed him not.
4 aaSurely he has borne our griefs
and carried our sorrows;
yet we esteemed him stricken,
absmitten by God, and afflicted.
5 acBut he was pierced for our transgressions;
he was crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,
adand with his wounds we are healed.
6 aeAll we like sheep have gone astray;
we have turned—every one—to his own way;
afand the Lord has laid on him
the iniquity of us all.
7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted,
agyet he opened not his mouth;
ahlike a ailamb that is led to the slaughter,
and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent,
so he opened not his mouth.
8By oppression and judgment he was taken away;
and as for his generation, ajwho considered
that he was cut off out of the land of the living,
stricken for the transgression of my people?
9And they made his grave with the wicked
akand with a rich man in his death,
although alhe had done no violence,
and there was no deceit in his mouth.
10 Yet amit was the will of the Lord to crush him;
he has put him to grief;
Or  he has made him sick

aowhen his soul makes
Or  when you make his soul
an offering for guilt,
he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days;
aqthe will of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.
11Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see
Masoretic Text; Dead Sea Scroll  he shall see light
and be satisfied;
by his knowledge shall asthe righteous one, my servant,
atmake many to be accounted righteous,
auand he shall bear their iniquities.
12 avTherefore I will divide him a portion with the many,
Or  with the great

axand he shall divide the spoil with the strong,
Or  with the numerous

because he poured out his soul to death
and was numbered with the transgressors;
azyet he bore the sin of many,
and makes intercession for the transgressors.
