James 1:2-12

Testing of Your Faith

2 aCount it all joy, my brothers,
Or  brothers and sisters. The plural Greek word adelphoi (translated “brothers”) refers to siblings in a family. In New Testament usage, depending on the context, adelphoi may refer either to men or to both men and women who are siblings (brothers and sisters) in God’s family, the church; also verses 16, 19
when you meet trials cof various kinds,
3for you know that dthe testing of your faith eproduces steadfastness. 4And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be fperfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

5 gIf any of you lacks wisdom, hlet him ask God, iwho gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. 6But jlet him ask in faith, kwith no doubting, for the one who doubts is like la wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. 7For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 mhe is a double-minded man, nunstable in all his ways.

9Let the lowly brother boast in his exaltation, 10and othe rich in his humiliation, because plike a flower of the grass
Or  a wild flower
he will pass away.
11For the sun rises with its scorching heat and rwithers the grass; its flower falls, and its beauty perishes. So also will the rich man fade away in the midst of his pursuits.

12 sBlessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive tthe crown of life, uwhich God has promised to those who love him.
