Jeremiah 10:3-5

3 afor the customs of the peoples are vanity.
Or vapor, or mist

cA tree from the forest is cut down
and worked with an axe by the hands of a craftsman.
4 dThey decorate it with silver and gold;
ethey fasten it with hammer and nails
so that it cannot move.
5Their idols
Hebrew They
are like scarecrows in a cucumber field,
and gthey cannot speak;
hthey have to be carried,
for they cannot walk.
Do not be afraid of them,
ifor they cannot do evil,
neither is it in them to do good.”

Jeremiah 10:8-9

8 jThey are both kstupid and foolish;
the instruction of idols is but wood!
9 lBeaten silver is brought from mTarshish,
and gold from nUphaz.
oThey are the work of the craftsman and of the hands of the goldsmith;
their clothing is violet and purple;
pthey are all the work of skilled men.

Jeremiah 10:14-15

14 qEvery man is stupid and without knowledge;
revery goldsmith is put to shame by his idols,
for his images are false,
sand there is no breath in them.
15They are worthless, a work of delusion;
at the time of their punishment they shall perish.

Jeremiah 15:19-20

19 Therefore thus says the Lord:
t“If you return, I will restore you,
and you shall ustand before me.
If you utter what is precious, and not what is worthless,
you shall be as my mouth.
They shall turn to you,
but you shall not turn to them.
20 vAnd I will make you to this people
a fortified wall of bronze;
they will fight against you,
wbut they shall not prevail over you,
xfor I am with you
to save you and deliver you,

declares the Lord.

Jeremiah 51:17

17Every man is stupid and without knowledge;
every goldsmith is put to shame by his idols,
for his images are false,
and there is no breath in them.

Daniel 5:23

23but you have lifted up yourself against ythe Lord of heaven. And zthe vessels of his house have been brought in before you, and you and your lords, your wives, and your concubines have drunk wine from them. aaAnd you have praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see or hear or know, abbut the God in whose hand is your breath, and acwhose are all your ways, adyou have not honored.

Habakkuk 2:18-20

18 aeWhat profit is an idol
when its maker has shaped it,
a metal image, afa teacher of lies?
For its maker trusts in his own creation
when he makes agspeechless idols!
19 ahWoe to him aiwho says to a wooden thing, Awake;
to a silent stone, Arise!
Can this teach?
Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver,
and ajthere is no breath at all in it.
20But akthe Lord is in his holy temple;
allet all the earth keep silence before him.”
