Lying Prophets

13Then I said: “Ah, Lord God, behold, the prophets csay to them, ‘You shall not see the sword, nor shall you have famine, but I will give you assured peace in this place.’” 14And the Lord said to me: “The dprophets are prophesying lies in my name. eI did not send them, nor did I command them or speak to them. They are prophesying to you a lying vision, fworthless divination, and gthe deceit of their own minds. 15Therefore thus says the Lord concerning the prophets who prophesy in my name although hI did not send them, and who say, iSword and famine shall not come upon this land’: jBy sword and famine those prophets shall be consumed.

and those who are for the sword, to the sword;
those who are for famine, to famine,
and those who are for captivity, to captivity.’

Lamentations 2:21-22

21 In the dust of the streets
ylie the young and the old;
zmy young women and my young men
have fallen by the sword;
aayou have killed them in the day of your anger,
slaughtering abwithout pity.
22 You summoned as if to aca festival day
admy terrors on every side,
aeand on the day of the anger of the Lord
no one escaped or survived;
afthose whom I held and raised
my enemy destroyed.

Lamentations 4:3-10

3 Even jackals offer the breast;
they nurse their young;
but the daughter of my people has become cruel,
like the ostriches in the wilderness.
4 The tongue of the nursing infant agsticks
to the roof of its mouth for thirst;
ahthe children beg for food,
but no one gives to them.
5 Those who once feasted on delicacies
perish in the streets;
aithose who were brought up in purple
embrace ash heaps.
6 ajFor the chastisement
Or iniquity
of the daughter of my people has been greater
than the punishment
Or sin
of Sodom,
amwhich was overthrown in a moment,
and no hands were wrung for her.

8 aqNow their face is blacker than soot;
they are not recognized in the streets;
their skin has shriveled on their bones;
it has become as dry as wood.
9 Happier were the victims of the sword
than the victims of hunger,
who wasted away, pierced
by lack of the fruits of the field.
10 arThe hands of ascompassionate women
athave boiled their own children;
authey became their food
during the destruction of the daughter of my people.
