Jeremiah 14:13-15

Lying Prophets

13Then I said: “Ah, Lord God, behold, the prophets asay to them, ‘You shall not see the sword, nor shall you have famine, but I will give you assured peace in this place.’” 14And the Lord said to me: “The bprophets are prophesying lies in my name. cI did not send them, nor did I command them or speak to them. They are prophesying to you a lying vision, dworthless divination, and ethe deceit of their own minds. 15Therefore thus says the Lord concerning the prophets who prophesy in my name although fI did not send them, and who say, gSword and famine shall not come upon this land’: hBy sword and famine those prophets shall be consumed.

Jeremiah 23:16-17

16Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you, ifilling you with vain hopes. jThey speak visions of their own minds, not from the mouth of the Lord. 17They say continually to those who despise the word of the Lord, k‘It shall be well with you’; and to everyone who lstubbornly follows his own heart, they say, mNo disaster shall come upon you.’”

Jeremiah 23:25-32

25I have heard what the prophets have said nwho prophesy lies in my name, saying, o‘I have dreamed, I have dreamed!’ 26How long shall there be lies in the heart of pthe prophets who prophesy lies, and who prophesy the deceit of their own heart, 27who think to make my people forget my name qby their dreams that they tell one another, even as their rfathers forgot my name for Baal? 28 sLet the prophet who has a dream ttell the dream, but let him who has my word speak my word faithfully. uWhat has straw in common with wheat? declares the Lord. 29 vIs not my word like fire, declares the Lord, and wlike a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces? 30 xTherefore, behold, I am against the prophets, declares the Lord, who steal my words from one another. 31Behold, I am against the prophets, declares the Lord, who use their tongues and declare, ‘declares the Lord.’ 32Behold, I am against those who prophesy lying dreams, declares the Lord, and who tell them and ylead my people astray by their lies and their recklessness, when zI did not send them or charge them. So they do not profit this people at all, declares the Lord.

Jeremiah 27:14-15

14 aaDo not listen to the words of the prophets who are saying to you, ‘You shall not serve the king of Babylon,’ abfor it is a lie that they are prophesying to you. 15I have not sent them, declares the Lord, but acthey are prophesying falsely in my name, with the result that I will drive you out and you will perish, you and the prophets who are prophesying to you.”

Jeremiah 28:15-17

15And Jeremiah the prophet said to the prophet Hananiah, “Listen, Hananiah, adthe Lord has not sent you, aeand you have made this people trust in a lie. 16Therefore thus says the Lord: ‘Behold, I will remove you from the face of the earth. This year you shall die, afbecause you have uttered rebellion against the Lord.’”

17In that same year, in the seventh month, the prophet Hananiah died.

Jeremiah 29:8-9

8For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: agDo not let your prophets and ahyour diviners who are among you deceive you, and do not listen to the dreams that they dream,
Hebrew your dreams, which you cause to dream
9for ajit is a lie that they are prophesying to you in my name; akI did not send them, declares the Lord.

Jeremiah 29:31-32

31Send to all the exiles, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord concerning alShemaiah of Nehelam: Because amShemaiah had prophesied to you anwhen I did not send him, and has made you trust in a lie, 32therefore thus says the Lord: Behold, I will punish aoShemaiah of Nehelam and his descendants. He shall not have anyone living among this people, apand he shall not see the good that I will do to my people, declares the Lord, aqfor he has spoken rebellion against the Lord.’”
