4 Because of the ground that is dismayed,
since there is ^fno rain on the land,
the farmers are ashamed;
they cover their heads.
5 Even ^gthe doe in the field forsakes her newborn fawn
because there is no grass.

Jeremiah 14:18

A Call to Repentance

^aiBecause grain offering and drink offering
are withheld from the house of your God.
14 ^ajConsecrate a fast;
^akcall a solemn assembly.
Gather ^althe elders
and ^amall the inhabitants of the land
to the house of the Lord your God,
and cry out to the Lord.
15 Alas for the day!
^anFor the day of the Lord is near,
and as destruction from the Almighty ^{▼▼ Destruction sounds like the Hebrew for Almighty} it comes.
16 Is not the food cut off
before our eyes,
^apjoy and gladness
from the house of our God?

the storehouses are desolate;
the granaries are torn down
because ^asthe grain has dried up.
18 How ^atthe beasts groan!
The herds of cattle are perplexed
because there is no pasture for them;

Joel 2:3

3 ^avFire devours before them,
and behind them a flame burns.

Amos 4:6-9

Israel Has Not Returned to the Lord

6 “I gave you cleanness of teeth in all your cities,

when there were yet three months to the harvest;

one field would have rain,

to drink water, and would not be satisfied;

declares the Lord.

your many gardens and your vineyards,
your fig trees and your olive trees ^bfthe locust devoured;

declares the Lord.

Haggai 1:9-11

9 ^bhYou looked for much, and behold, it came to little. And when you brought it home, ^biI blew it away. Why? declares the Lord of hosts. Because of my house ^bjthat lies in ruins, while each of you busies himself with his own house. 10 Therefore ^bkthe heavens above you have withheld the dew, and the earth has withheld its produce. 11 And ^blI have called for a drought on the land and the hills, on ^bmthe grain, the new wine, the oil, on what the ground brings forth, on man and beast, and ^bnon all their labors.”
