Jeremiah 18:18

18Then they said, aCome, let us make plots against Jeremiah, bfor the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. cCome, let us strike him with the tongue, and let us not pay attention to any of his words.”

Jeremiah 20:7-10

7 O Lord, dyou have deceived me,
and I was deceived;
eyou are stronger than I,
and you have prevailed.
fI have become a laughingstock all the day;
everyone mocks me.
8For whenever I speak, I cry out,
I shout, gViolence and destruction!”
For hthe word of the Lord has become for me
ia reproach and jderision all day long.
9If I say, “I will not mention him,
or speak any more in his name,”
kthere is in my heart as it were a burning fire
shut up in my bones,
and lI am weary with holding it in,
and I cannot.
10 mFor I hear many whispering.
nTerror is on every side!
Denounce him! oLet us denounce him!”
say all my pclose friends,
qwatching for rmy fall.
Perhaps he will be deceived;
then swe can overcome him
and take our revenge on him.”

Jeremiah 26:2-8

2Thus says the Lord: tStand in the court of the Lord’s house, and speak to all the cities of Judah that come to worship in the house of the Lord uall the words that I command you to speak to them; vdo not hold back a word. 3 wIt may be they will listen, and every one turn from his evil way, xthat I may relent of the disaster that I intend to do to them ybecause of their evil deeds. 4You shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord: zIf you will not listen to me, to walk in my law that I have set before you, 5 aaand to listen to the words of my servants the prophets whom I send to you aburgently, acthough you have not listened, 6then I will make this house adlike Shiloh, and I will make this city aea curse for all the nations of the earth.’”

7 afThe priests and the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the Lord. 8And when Jeremiah had finished speaking all that the Lord had commanded him to speak to all the people, then agthe priests and the prophets and all the people laid hold of him, saying, “You shall die!

Amos 5:10-12

10 ahThey hate him who reproves aiin the gate,
and they ajabhor him who speaks the truth.
11Therefore because you aktrample on
Or  you tax
the poor
and you exact taxes of grain from him,
amyou have built houses of hewn stone,
but you shall not dwell in them;
anyou have planted pleasant vineyards,
but you shall not drink their wine.
12For I know how many are your transgressions
and how great are your sins
you who afflict the righteous, who aotake a bribe,
and apturn aside the needy aqin the gate.

Amos 7:10-17

Amos Accused

10Then Amaziah arthe priest of Bethel sent to asJeroboam king of Israel, saying, “Amos has atconspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel. The land is not able to bear all his words. 11For thus Amos has said,

“‘Jeroboam shall die by the sword,
and auIsrael must go into exile
away from his land.’”
12And Amaziah said to Amos, av“O seer, go, flee away awto the land of Judah, and axeat bread there, and prophesy there, 13but aynever again prophesy at Bethel, for azit is the king’s sanctuary, and it is a temple of the kingdom.”

14Then Amos answered and said to Amaziah, baI was
Or am; twice in this verse
no prophet, nor a prophet’s son, but bcI was a herdsman and a dresser of sycamore figs.
15 bdBut the Lord took me from following the flock, and the Lord said to me, ‘Go, prophesy to my people Israel.’ 16 beNow therefore hear the word of the Lord.

You say, bf‘Do not prophesy against Israel,
and bgdo not preach against the house of bhIsaac.’
17 biTherefore thus says the Lord:

“‘Your wife shall be a prostitute in the city,
and your sons and your daughters shall fall by the sword,
and your land bjshall be divided up with a measuring line;
you yourself shall die in an unclean land,
and bkIsrael shall surely go into exile away from its land.’”

Micah 2:6-7

6 bl“Do not preach”—thus they preach
bm“one should not preach of such things;
bndisgrace will not overtake us.”
7Should this be said, O house of Jacob?
boHas the Lord grown impatient?
Hebrew  Has the spirit of the Lord grown short?

Are these his deeds?
Do not my words do good
to him who walks uprightly?
