Jeremiah 2:21

21 aYet I planted you a choice vine,
wholly of pure seed.
bHow then have you turned degenerate
and become a wild vine?

Hosea 10:1

1 cIsrael is a luxuriant vine
that yields its fruit.
The more his fruit increased,
dthe more altars he built;
as his country improved,
he improved his pillars.

Matthew 21:33-41

The Parable of the Tenants

33 eHear another parable. There was a master of a house who planted fa vineyard gand put a fence around it and dug a winepress in it and built a tower and hleased it to tenants, and iwent into another country. 34When the season for fruit drew near, he sent his servants
Greek bondservants; also verses 35, 36
to the tenants kto get his fruit.
35 lAnd the tenants took his servants and beat one, killed another, and mstoned another. 36 nAgain he sent other servants, more than the first. And they did the same to them. 37Finally he sent his son to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’ 38But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves, oThis is the heir. Come, plet us kill him and have his inheritance.’ 39And they took him and qthrew him out of the vineyard and killed him. 40 rWhen therefore the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?” 41They said to him, s“He will put those wretches to a miserable death and tlet out the vineyard to other tenants who will give him the fruits in their seasons.”

Mark 12:1-9

The Parable of the Tenants

1 uAnd he began to speak to them in parables. “A man planted va vineyard wand put a fence around it and dug a pit for the winepress and built a tower, and xleased it to tenants and ywent into another country. 2When the season came, he sent a servant
Greek bondservant; also verse 4
to the tenants to get from them some of the fruit of the vineyard.
3 aaAnd they took him and beat him and sent him away empty-handed. 4 abAgain ache sent to them another servant, and adthey struck him on the head and aetreated him shamefully. 5 afAnd he sent another, and him they killed. And so with many others: some they beat, and some they killed. 6He had still one other, aga beloved son. ahFinally he sent him to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’ 7But those tenants said to one another, aiThis is the heir. Come, ajlet us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’ 8And they took him and killed him and akthrew him out of the vineyard. 9What will the owner of the vineyard do? alHe will amcome and destroy the tenants and angive the vineyard to others.

Luke 20:9-16

The Parable of the Wicked Tenants

9 aoAnd he began to tell the people this parable: A man planted apa vineyard and aqlet it out to tenants and arwent into another country for a long while. 10When the time came, he sent a servant
Greek bondservant; also verse 11
to the tenants, so that atthey would give him some of the fruit of the vineyard. auBut the tenants beat him and sent him away empty-handed.
11 avAnd awhe sent another servant. But they also beat and axtreated him shamefully, and sent him away empty-handed. 12 ayAnd he sent yet a third. This one also they wounded and cast out. 13Then the owner of the vineyard said, ‘What shall I do? I will send my azbeloved son; perhaps they will respect him.’ 14But when the tenants saw him, they said to themselves, baThis is the heir. bbLet us kill him, so that the inheritance may be ours.’ 15And they bcthrew him out of the vineyard and killed him. What then will the owner of the vineyard do to them? 16 bdHe will become and destroy those tenants and bfgive the vineyard to others.” When they heard this, they said, “Surely not!”

John 15:1-6

I Am the True Vine

1I am the bgtrue vine, and my Father is bhthe vinedresser. 2 biEvery branch in me that does not bear fruit bjhe takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, bkthat it may bear more fruit. 3Already blyou are clean bmbecause of the word that I have spoken to you. 4 bnAbide boin me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. 5I am the vine; bpyou are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bqbears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. 6If anyone does not abide in me brhe is thrown away like a branch and withers; bsand the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned.
