20 There was another man who prophesied in the name of the Lord, Uriah the son of Shemaiah from ^fKiriath-jearim. He prophesied against this city and against this land in words like those of Jeremiah. 21 And when ^gKing Jehoiakim, with all his warriors and all the officials, heard his words, the king sought to put him to death. But when Uriah heard of it, he was afraid and fled and escaped to Egypt. 22 Then ^hKing Jehoiakim sent to Egypt certain men, ⁱElnathan the son of ^jAchbor and others with him, 23 and they took Uriah from Egypt and brought him to King Jehoiakim, ^kwho struck him down with the sword and dumped his dead body into the burial place of the common people.

24 But the hand of ^lAhikam the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah so that he was not given over to the people to be put to death.

Jeremiah 29:26

26 ‘The Lord has made you priest instead of Jehoiada the priest, to have ^mcharge in the house of the Lord ⁿover every madman who prophesies, to put him in ^othe stocks and neck irons.

Jeremiah 37:15-16

15 And the officials were enraged at Jeremiah, and they beat him ^pand imprisoned him in the house of Jonathan the secretary, for it had been made a prison.

16 ^qWhen Jeremiah had come to the dungeon cells and remained there many days,

Jeremiah 38:4-6

4 Then the officials said to the king, ^r“Let this man be put to death, ^sfor he is weakening the hands of the soldiers who are left in this city, and the hands of all the people, by speaking such words to them. For this man is not seeking ^tthe welfare of this people, but their harm.” 5 King Zedekiah said, “Behold, he is in your hands, ^ufor the king can do nothing against you.” 6 So they took Jeremiah ^vand cast him into the cistern of Malchiah, the king’s son, which was in ^wthe court of the guard, letting Jeremiah down ^xby ropes. ^yAnd there was no water in the cistern, but only mud, and ^zJeremiah sank in the mud.

Matthew 23:34-37
