13 ^a“Woe to him who builds his house by ^bunrighteousness,
and his upper rooms by injustice,
^cwho makes his neighbor serve him for nothing
and does not give him his wages,
14 who says, ‘I will build myself a great house
with spacious upper rooms,’
who cuts out windows for it,
paneling it with cedar
and ^dpainting it with vermilion.
15 Do you think you are a king
because you compete in cedar?
Did not your father eat and drink
and ^edo justice and righteousness?
^fThen it was well with him.
16 ^gHe judged the cause of the poor and needy;
^hthen it was well.
Is not this ⁱto know me?
declares the Lord.
17 But you have eyes and heart
only for your dishonest gain,
^jfor shedding innocent blood,
and for practicing oppression and violence.”

Ezekiel 22:25-28

25 ^kThe conspiracy of her prophets in her midst is ^llike a roaring lion ^mtearing the prey; they have devoured human lives; they have taken treasure and precious things; they have made many widows in her midst. 26 ⁿHer priests ^ohave done violence to my law and ^phave profaned my holy things. ^qThey have made no distinction between the holy and the common, neither have they taught the difference between the unclean and the clean, and ^rthey have disregarded my Sabbaths, ^sso that I am profaned among them. 27 ^tHer princes in her midst are like wolves ^utearing the prey, ^vshedding blood, destroying lives to get dishonest gain. 28 And ^wher prophets have smeared whitewash for them, ^xseeing false visions and divining lies for them, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord God,’ when the Lord has not spoken.

Habakkuk 2:9-12
