Jeremiah 22:13-17

13 aWoe to him who builds his house by bunrighteousness,
and his upper rooms by injustice,
cwho makes his neighbor serve him for nothing
and does not give him his wages,
14who says, ‘I will build myself a great house
with spacious upper rooms,’
who cuts out windows for it,
paneling it with cedar
and dpainting it with vermilion.
15Do you think you are a king
because you compete in cedar?
Did not your father eat and drink
and edo justice and righteousness?
fThen it was well with him.
16 gHe judged the cause of the poor and needy;
hthen it was well.
Is not this ito know me?
declares the Lord.
17But you have eyes and heart
only for your dishonest gain,
jfor shedding innocent blood,
and for practicing oppression and violence.”

Micah 2:2

2They covet fields and kseize them,
and houses, and take them away;
they oppress a man and his house,
a man and his inheritance.

Habakkuk 2:9-12

9 lWoe to him who gets evil gain for his house,
mto nset his nest on high,
to be safe from the reach of harm!
10You have devised shame for your house
oby cutting off many peoples;
you have forfeited your life.
11For pthe stone will cry out from the wall,
and the beam from the woodwork respond.
12 qWoe to him rwho builds a town with blood
and founds a city on iniquity!

Matthew 23:14

Luke 12:16-24

16And he told them a parable, saying, s“The land of a rich man produced plentifully, 17and he thought to himself, tWhat shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?’ 18And he said, ‘I will do this: I will tear down my ubarns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. 19And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have ample goods laid up vfor many years; relax, weat, drink, be merry.”’ 20But God said to him, xFool! yThis night zyour soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, aawhose will they be?’ 21So is the one abwho lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.”

Do Not Be Anxious

22And he said to his disciples, acTherefore I tell you, addo not be anxious about your life, what you will eat, nor about your body, what you will put on. 23For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing. 24 aeConsider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. afOf how much more value are you than the birds!
