The Righteous Branch

1 aWoe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture!” declares the Lord.

Ezekiel 13:18

18and say, Thus says the Lord God: Woe to the women bwho sew magic bands upon all wrists, and cmake veils for the heads of persons of every stature, in dthe hunt for souls! Will you hunt down souls belonging to my people and keep your own souls alive?

Ezekiel 34:2

2 eSon of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel; prophesy, and say to them, even to the shepherds, Thus says the Lord God: fAh, shepherds of Israel gwho have been feeding yourselves! hShould not shepherds feed the sheep?

Matthew 23:13-29

13But woe ito you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you jshut the kingdom of heaven in people’s faces. For you kneither enter yourselves nor allow those who would enter to go in.

16Woe to qyou, rblind guides, who say, sIf anyone swears by the temple, it is nothing, but if anyone swears by the gold of the temple, he is bound by his oath.’ 17You blind fools! For which is greater, the gold or tthe temple that has made the gold sacred? 18And you say, ‘If anyone swears by the altar, it is nothing, but if anyone swears by uthe gift that is on the altar, he is bound by his oath.’ 19You blind men! For which is greater, the gift or vthe altar that makes the gift sacred? 20So whoever swears by the altar swears by it and by everything on it. 21And whoever swears by the temple swears by it and by whim who dwells in it. 22And whoever swears by xheaven swears by ythe throne of God and by zhim who sits upon it.

23 aaWoe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For abyou tithe mint and dill and accumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: adjustice and mercy and faithfulness. aeThese you ought to have done, without neglecting the others. 24You blind guides, straining out a gnat and swallowing afa camel!

25 agWoe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ahyou clean the outside of aithe cup and the plate, but inside they are full of ajgreed and self-indulgence. 26You blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of akthe cup and the plate, that the outside also may be clean.

27 alWoe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like amwhitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but within are full of dead people’s bones and anall uncleanness. 28So you also aooutwardly appear righteous to others, but within you are full of aphypocrisy and lawlessness.

29 aqWoe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you build the tombs of the prophets and decorate the monuments of the righteous,

Luke 11:42-47

42 arBut woe to you Pharisees! For asyou tithe mint and rue and every herb, and neglect atjustice and authe love of God. avThese you ought to have done, without neglecting the others. 43Woe to you Pharisees! For awyou love the best seat in the synagogues and greetings in the marketplaces. 44Woe to you! axFor you are like unmarked graves, and people walk over them without knowing it.”

45One of aythe lawyers answered him, “Teacher, in saying these things you insult us also.” 46And he said, Woe to you azlawyers also! For bayou load people with burdens hard to bear, and you yourselves do not touch the burdens with one of your fingers. 47 bbWoe to you! For you build the tombs of the prophets whom your fathers killed.

Luke 11:52

52Woe to you bclawyers! bdFor you have taken away the key of beknowledge. You bfdid not enter yourselves, and you hindered those who were entering.”

16For if I preach the gospel, that gives me no ground for boasting. For bgnecessity is laid upon me. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!
