Jeremiah 47

Judgment on the Philistines

1 The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet ^gconcerning the Philistines, before Pharaoh struck down ^hGaza.

2 “Thus says the Lord:
ⁱBehold, waters are rising ^jout of the north,
^kand shall become an overflowing torrent;
they shall overflow ^lthe land and all that fills it,
the city and those who dwell in it.
Men shall cry out,
and every inhabitant of the land shall wail.
3 At the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his stallions,
^mat the rushing of his chariots, at the rumbling of their wheels,
the fathers ⁿlook not back to their children,
so feeble are their hands,
4 because of the day that is coming to destroy
all ^othe Philistines,
to cut off from ^pTyre and Sidon
every helper that remains.
For the Lord is destroying the Philistines,
^qthe remnant of the coastland of ^rCaphtor.
5 ^sBaldness has come upon Gaza;
^tAshkelon has perished.
O remnant of their valley,
^uhow long will you gash yourselves?
6 ^vAh, sword of the Lord!
How long till you are quiet?
Put yourself into your scabbard;
rest and be still!
7 How can it ^{▼▼Septuagint, Vulgate; Hebrew you} be quiet
^xwhen the Lord has given it a charge?
Against ^yAshkelon and against the seashore
^zhe has appointed it.”

Ezekiel 25:15-17

Prophecy Against Philistia

15 “Thus says the Lord God: Because ^aathe Philistines ^abacted revengefully and took vengeance ^acwith malice of soul to destroy in never-ending enmity, 16 therefore thus says the Lord God, ^adBehold, I will stretch out my hand against the Philistines, and I will cut off ^aethe Cherethites and destroy the rest of the seacoast. 17 I will execute great vengeance on them ^afwith wrathful rebukes. ^agThen they will know that I am the Lord, when I lay my vengeance upon them.”

Amos 1:6-8

6 Thus says the Lord:

^ah“For three transgressions of ^aiGaza,
and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,
because ^ajthey carried into exile a whole people
to deliver them up to Edom.
7 So I will send a fire upon the wall of ^akGaza,
and it shall devour her strongholds.
8 I will cut off the inhabitants from ^alAshdod,
and him who holds the scepter from Ashkelon;
I will turn my hand against Ekron,
and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish,”

says the Lord God.

Zechariah 9:5-7

5 ^amAshkelon shall see it, and be afraid;
Gaza too, and shall writhe in anguish;
Ekron also, because its hopes are confounded.
The king shall perish from Gaza;
Ashkelon shall be uninhabited;
6 ^ana mixed people ^{▼▼Or a foreign people; Hebrew a bastard} shall dwell in Ashdod,
and I will cut off the pride of Philistia.
7 I will take away ^apits blood from its mouth,
and ^aqits abominations from between its teeth;
^arit too shall be a remnant for our God;
it shall be like ^asa clan in Judah,
and Ekron shall be like the Jebusites.
