Jeremiah 25:9-14

9 abehold, I will send for all the tribes of the north, declares the Lord, and for Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, bmy servant, and I will bring them against this land and its inhabitants, and against all these surrounding nations. I will devote them to destruction, cand make them a horror, a hissing, and an everlasting desolation. 10Moreover, dI will banish from them the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, ethe grinding of the millstones and fthe light of the lamp. 11 gThis whole land shall become a ruin and a waste, and hthese nations shall serve the king of Babylon iseventy years. 12Then after jseventy years are completed, kI will punish the king of Babylon and that nation, lthe land of the Chaldeans, for their iniquity, declares the Lord, mmaking the land an everlasting waste. 13I will bring upon that land all the words that I have uttered against it, everything written nin this book, which Jeremiah prophesied against all the nations. 14 oFor many nations pand great kings shall make slaves even of them, qand I will recompense them according to their deeds and the work of their hands.”

Jeremiah 27:6-7

6 rNow I have given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, smy servant, tand I have given him also the beasts of the field to serve him. 7 uAll the nations shall serve him and vhis son and whis grandson, xuntil the time of his own land comes. yThen many nations and great kings shall make him their slave.

Jeremiah 50:1-19

Judgment on Babylon

1The word that the Lord spoke concerning zBabylon, concerning the land of the Chaldeans, aaby Jeremiah the prophet:

2 Declare among the nations and proclaim,
set up a banner and proclaim,
conceal it not, and say:
abBabylon is taken,
acBel is put to shame,
Merodach is dismayed.
adHer images are put to shame,
her idols are dismayed.’
3For aeout of the north a nation has come up against her, afwhich shall make her land a desolation, and none shall dwell in it; agboth man and beast shall flee away.

4 ah“In those days and in that time, declares the Lord, aithe people of Israel and the people of Judah shall come together, ajweeping as they come, and they akshall seek the Lord their God. 5 alThey shall ask the way to Zion, with faces turned toward it, amsaying, ‘Come, let us join ourselves to the Lord in an aneverlasting covenant that will never be forgotten.’

6 ao“My people have been lost sheep. apTheir shepherds have led them astray, turning them away on the mountains. From mountain to hill they have gone. They have forgotten their fold. 7All who found them have devoured them, aqand their enemies have said, ‘We are not guilty, for arthey have sinned against the Lord, astheir habitation of righteousness, the Lord, atthe hope of their fathers.’

8 auFlee from the midst of Babylon, avand go out of the land of the Chaldeans, and be as male goats before the flock. 9For behold, I am stirring up and bringing against Babylon awa gathering of great nations, from the north country. And they shall array themselves against her. From there she shall be taken. Their arrows are like a skilled warrior who does not return empty-handed. 10 axChaldea shall be plundered; all who plunder her shall be sated, declares the Lord.

11 ayThough you rejoice, though you exult,
O plunderers of my heritage,
though you frolic like a heifer in the pasture,
and neigh like stallions,
12your mother shall be utterly shamed,
and she who bore you shall be disgraced.
Behold, she shall be the last of the nations,
aza wilderness, a dry land, and a desert.
13 baBecause of the wrath of the Lord she shall not be inhabited
but shall be an utter desolation;
bbeveryone who passes by Babylon shall be appalled,
bcand hiss because of all her wounds.
14 bdSet yourselves in array against Babylon all around,
beall you who bend the bow;
shoot at her, spare no arrows,
bffor she has sinned against the Lord.
15 bgRaise a shout against her all around;
she has surrendered;
her bulwarks have fallen;
bhher walls are thrown down.
For bithis is the vengeance of the Lord:
take vengeance on her;
bjdo to her as she has done.
16Cut off from Babylon the sower,
and the one who handles the sickle in time of harvest;
bkbecause of the sword of the oppressor,
blevery one shall turn to his own people,
and every one shall flee to his own land.
17 bmIsrael is a hunted sheep bndriven away by lions. boFirst the king of Assyria bpdevoured him, and now at last bqNebuchadnezzar king of Babylon brhas gnawed his bones. 18Therefore, thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, bsI am bringing punishment on the king of Babylon and his land, btas I punished the king of Assyria. 19 buI will restore Israel to his pasture, and bvhe shall feed on bwCarmel and in bxBashan, and his desire shall be satisfied on the hills of Ephraim and in byGilead.
