Jeremiah Spared from Death

16 aThen the officials and all the people said to the priests and the prophets, bThis man does not deserve the sentence of death, for he has spoken to us in the name of the Lord our God.” 17 cAnd certain of dthe elders of the land arose and spoke to all the assembled people, saying,

Jeremiah 26:24

24But the hand of eAhikam the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah so that he was not given over to the people to be put to death.

Jeremiah 34:19

19the officials of Judah, the officials of Jerusalem, fthe eunuchs, the priests, and all the people of the land who passed between the parts of the calf.

Jeremiah 36:12-19

12he went down to the king’s house, into the secretary’s chamber, and gall the officials were sitting there: hElishama the secretary, iDelaiah the son of Shemaiah, jElnathan kthe son of Achbor, lGemariah the son of mShaphan, Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the officials. 13And Micaiah told them all the words that he had heard, when Baruch read the scroll in the hearing of the people. 14Then all the officials sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, son of nShelemiah, son of Cushi, to say to Baruch, “Take in your hand the scroll that you read in the hearing of the people, and come.” So Baruch the son of Neriah took the scroll in his hand and came to them. 15And they said to him, “Sit down and read it.” So Baruch read it to them. 16When they heard all the words, they turned one to another in fear. And they said to Baruch, o“We must report all these words to the king.” 17Then they asked Baruch, “Tell us, please, how did you write all these words? Was it at his dictation?” 18Baruch answered them, “He dictated all these words to me, pwhile I wrote them with ink on the scroll.” 19Then the officials said to Baruch, “Go and hide, you and Jeremiah, and let no one know where you are.”

Jeremiah 36:25

25Even when qElnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah rurged the king not to burn the scroll, he would not listen to them.

Jeremiah 37:14-16

14And Jeremiah said, “It is a lie; I am not deserting to the Chaldeans.” But Irijah would not listen to him, and seized Jeremiah and brought him to sthe officials. 15And the officials were enraged at Jeremiah, and they beat him tand imprisoned him in the house of Jonathan the secretary, for it had been made a prison.

16 uWhen Jeremiah had come to the dungeon cells and remained there many days,

Jeremiah 38:4-6

4Then the officials said to the king, vLet this man be put to death, wfor he is weakening the hands of the soldiers who are left in this city, and the hands of all the people, by speaking such words to them. For this man is not seeking xthe welfare of this people, but their harm.” 5King Zedekiah said, “Behold, he is in your hands, yfor the king can do nothing against you.” 6So they took Jeremiah zand cast him into the cistern of Malchiah, the king’s son, which was in aathe court of the guard, letting Jeremiah down abby ropes. acAnd there was no water in the cistern, but only mud, and adJeremiah sank in the mud.

Ezekiel 22:6

6Behold, aethe princes of Israel in you, every one according to his power, have been bent on shedding blood.

Ezekiel 22:27

27 afHer princes in her midst are like wolves agtearing the prey, ahshedding blood, destroying lives to get dishonest gain.
