Jeremiah 26:8-11

8And when Jeremiah had finished speaking all that the Lord had commanded him to speak to all the people, then athe priests and the prophets and all the people laid hold of him, saying, “You shall die! 9Why have you prophesied in the name of the Lord, saying, ‘This house shall be blike Shiloh, and this city shall be desolate, cwithout inhabitant’?” And all the people gathered around Jeremiah in the house of the Lord.

10When dthe officials of Judah heard these things, they came up from the king’s house to the house of the Lord and took their seat in the eentry of the New Gate of the house of the Lord. 11Then fthe priests and the prophets said to the officials and to all the people, gThis man deserves the sentence of death, because he has prophesied against this city, as you have heard with your own ears.”

Jeremiah 26:20-23

20There was another man who prophesied in the name of the Lord, Uriah the son of Shemaiah from hKiriath-jearim. He prophesied against this city and against this land in words like those of Jeremiah. 21And when iKing Jehoiakim, with all his warriors and all the officials, heard his words, the king sought to put him to death. But when Uriah heard of it, he was afraid and fled and escaped to Egypt. 22Then jKing Jehoiakim sent to Egypt certain men, kElnathan the son of lAchbor and others with him, 23and they took Uriah from Egypt and brought him to King Jehoiakim, mwho struck him down with the sword and dumped his dead body into the burial place of the common people.

Jeremiah 38:4-6

4Then the officials said to the king, nLet this man be put to death, ofor he is weakening the hands of the soldiers who are left in this city, and the hands of all the people, by speaking such words to them. For this man is not seeking pthe welfare of this people, but their harm.” 5King Zedekiah said, “Behold, he is in your hands, qfor the king can do nothing against you.” 6So they took Jeremiah rand cast him into the cistern of Malchiah, the king’s son, which was in sthe court of the guard, letting Jeremiah down tby ropes. uAnd there was no water in the cistern, but only mud, and vJeremiah sank in the mud.

Amos 7:10-17

Amos Accused

10Then Amaziah wthe priest of Bethel sent to xJeroboam king of Israel, saying, “Amos has yconspired against you in the midst of the house of Israel. The land is not able to bear all his words. 11For thus Amos has said,

“‘Jeroboam shall die by the sword,
and zIsrael must go into exile
away from his land.’”
12And Amaziah said to Amos, aa“O seer, go, flee away abto the land of Judah, and aceat bread there, and prophesy there, 13but adnever again prophesy at Bethel, for aeit is the king’s sanctuary, and it is a temple of the kingdom.”

14Then Amos answered and said to Amaziah, afI was
Or am; twice in this verse
no prophet, nor a prophet’s son, but ahI was a herdsman and a dresser of sycamore figs.
15 aiBut the Lord took me from following the flock, and the Lord said to me, ‘Go, prophesy to my people Israel.’ 16 ajNow therefore hear the word of the Lord.

You say, ak‘Do not prophesy against Israel,
and aldo not preach against the house of amIsaac.’
17 anTherefore thus says the Lord:

“‘Your wife shall be a prostitute in the city,
and your sons and your daughters shall fall by the sword,
and your land aoshall be divided up with a measuring line;
you yourself shall die in an unclean land,
and apIsrael shall surely go into exile away from its land.’”

Matthew 25:40

40And aqthe King will answer them, arTruly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these asmy brothers,
Or  brothers and sisters
you did it to me.’
