Jeremiah 29:25-32

25Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: You have sent letters in your name to all the people who are in Jerusalem, and to aZephaniah the son of bMaaseiah the priest, and to all the priests, saying, 26‘The Lord has made you priest instead of Jehoiada the priest, to have ccharge in the house of the Lord dover every madman who prophesies, to put him in ethe stocks and neck irons. 27Now why have you not rebuked Jeremiah fof Anathoth who is prophesying to you? 28For he has sent to us in Babylon, saying, “Your exile will be long; gbuild houses and live in them, and plant gardens and eat their produce.”’”

29 hZephaniah the priest read this letter in the hearing of Jeremiah the prophet. 30 iThen the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah: 31Send to all the exiles, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord concerning jShemaiah of Nehelam: Because kShemaiah had prophesied to you lwhen I did not send him, and has made you trust in a lie, 32therefore thus says the Lord: Behold, I will punish mShemaiah of Nehelam and his descendants. He shall not have anyone living among this people, nand he shall not see the good that I will do to my people, declares the Lord, ofor he has spoken rebellion against the Lord.’”

12And Amaziah said to Amos, u“O seer, go, flee away vto the land of Judah, and weat bread there, and prophesy there, 13but xnever again prophesy at Bethel, for yit is the king’s sanctuary, and it is a temple of the kingdom.”

14Then Amos answered and said to Amaziah, zI was
Or am; twice in this verse
no prophet, nor a prophet’s son, but abI was a herdsman and a dresser of sycamore figs.
15 acBut the Lord took me from following the flock, and the Lord said to me, ‘Go, prophesy to my people Israel.’ 16 adNow therefore hear the word of the Lord.

You say, ae‘Do not prophesy against Israel,
and afdo not preach against the house of agIsaac.’
17 ahTherefore thus says the Lord:

“‘Your wife shall be a prostitute in the city,
and your sons and your daughters shall fall by the sword,
and your land aishall be divided up with a measuring line;
you yourself shall die in an unclean land,
and ajIsrael shall surely go into exile away from its land.’”

Micah 2:6-7

6 ak“Do not preach”—thus they preach
al“one should not preach of such things;
amdisgrace will not overtake us.”
7Should this be said, O house of Jacob?
anHas the Lord grown impatient?
Hebrew  Has the spirit of the Lord grown short?

Are these his deeds?
Do not my words do good
to him who walks uprightly?
