Jeremiah 31:18-20

18I have heard aEphraim grieving,
‘You have disciplined me, and I was disciplined,
like an untrained calf;
bbring me back that I may be restored,
for you are the Lord my God.
19For after cI had turned away, I relented,
and after I was instructed, dI struck my thigh;
eI was ashamed, and I was confounded,
because I bore the disgrace of my youth.’
20 fIs Ephraim my dear son?
gIs he my darling child?
For as often as I speak against him,
I do remember him still.
hTherefore my heart
Hebrew bowels
yearns for him;
I will surely have mercy on him,

declares the Lord.

Ezekiel 18:27-32

27Again, jwhen a wicked person turns away from the wickedness he has committed and does what is just and right, he shall save his life. 28Because he considered and turned away from all the transgressions that he had committed, he shall surely live; he shall not die. 29Yet the house of Israel says, ‘The way of the Lord is not just.’ O house of Israel, are my ways not just? Is it not your ways that are not just?

30Therefore kI will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, declares the Lord God. lRepent and turn from all your transgressions, mlest iniquity be your ruin.
Or lest iniquity be your stumbling block
31 oCast away from you all the transgressions that you have committed, and pmake yourselves a new heart and a new spirit! qWhy will you die, O house of Israel? 32 rFor I have no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Lord God; sso turn, and live.”
