and after I was instructed, ^bI struck my thigh;
^cI was ashamed, and I was confounded,
because I bore the disgrace of my youth.’
20 ^dIs Ephraim my dear son?
^eIs he my darling child?
For as often as I speak against him,
I do remember him still.
^fTherefore my heart ^{▼▼Hebrew bowels} yearns for him;
I will surely have mercy on him,

declares the Lord.

Ezekiel 9:4-6

4 And the Lord said to him, “Pass through the city, through Jerusalem, and ^hput a mark on the foreheads of the men who ⁱsigh and groan over all the abominations that are committed in it.” 5 And to ^jthe others he said in my hearing, “Pass through the city after him, and strike. ^kYour eye shall not spare, and you shall show no pity. 6 ^lKill old men outright, young men and maidens, little children and women, but ^mtouch no one on whom is the mark. And ⁿbegin at my sanctuary.” So they began with the elders who were before the house.

Luke 18:13-14
