Jeremiah 32:2-3

2At that time the army of the king of Babylon was besieging Jerusalem, and Jeremiah the prophet awas shut up in bthe court of the guard that was in the palace of the king of Judah. 3For Zedekiah king of Judah had imprisoned him, saying, “Why do you prophesy and say, ‘Thus says the Lord: cBehold, I am giving this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall capture it;

Jeremiah 32:8

8Then Hanamel my cousin came to me in dthe court of the guard, in accordance with the word of the Lord, and said to me, ‘Buy my field that is at eAnathoth in the land of Benjamin, for the right of possession and redemption is yours; buy it for yourself.’ Then I knew that this was the word of the Lord.

Jeremiah 36:6

6so you are to go, and fon a day of fasting in the hearing of all the people in the Lord’s house you shall read the words of the Lord from the scroll that you have written at my dictation. You shall read them also in the hearing of all the men of Judah who come out of their cities.

Jeremiah 37:15-21

15And the officials were enraged at Jeremiah, and they beat him gand imprisoned him in the house of Jonathan the secretary, for it had been made a prison.

16 hWhen Jeremiah had come to the dungeon cells and remained there many days, 17King Zedekiah sent for him and received him. The king questioned him isecretly in his house and said, “Is there any word from the Lord?” Jeremiah said, “There is.” Then he said, j“You shall be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.” 18Jeremiah also said to King Zedekiah, “What wrong have I done to you or your servants or this people, kthat you have put me in prison? 19 lWhere are your prophets who prophesied to you, saying, ‘The king of Babylon will not come against you and against this land’? 20Now hear, please, O my lord the king: mlet my humble plea come before you and ndo not send me back to the house of Jonathan the secretary, lest I die there.” 21So King Zedekiah gave orders, and they committed Jeremiah to othe court of the guard. And a loaf of bread was given him daily from the bakersstreet, puntil all the bread of the city was gone. So Jeremiah remained in qthe court of the guard.

Jeremiah 38:6-13

6So they took Jeremiah rand cast him into the cistern of Malchiah, the king’s son, which was in sthe court of the guard, letting Jeremiah down tby ropes. uAnd there was no water in the cistern, but only mud, and vJeremiah sank in the mud.

Jeremiah Rescued from the Cistern

7When wEbed-melech xthe Ethiopian, ya eunuch who was in the king’s house, heard that they had put Jeremiah into the cistern—the king was sitting zin the Benjamin Gate 8 aaEbed-melech went from the king’s house and said to the king, 9“My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they did to Jeremiah the prophet by casting him into the cistern, and he will die there of abhunger, acfor there is no bread left in the city.” 10Then the king commanded adEbed-melech the Ethiopian, “Take thirty men with you from here, and lift Jeremiah the prophet out of the cistern before he dies.” 11So aeEbed-melech took the men with him and went to the house of the king, to a wardrobe in the storehouse, and took from there old rags and worn-out clothes, which he let down to Jeremiah in the cistern afby ropes. 12Then agEbed-melech the Ethiopian said to Jeremiah, “Put the rags and clothes between your armpits and ahthe ropes.” Jeremiah did so. 13Then they drew Jeremiah up with airopes and lifted him out of the cistern. And Jeremiah remained in the ajcourt of the guard.

Jeremiah 38:28

28And Jeremiah remained akin the court of the guard until the day that Jerusalem was taken.

Jeremiah 39:15

15The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah alwhile he was shut up in the court of the guard:

Lamentations 3:52-55

52 am“I have been hunted anlike a bird
by those who were my enemies aowithout cause;
53 apthey flung me alive into the pit
aqand cast stones on me;
54 arwater closed over my head;
I said, as‘I am lost.’
55 at“I called on your name, O Lord,
from the depths of the pit;
