Jeremiah 4:19-22

Anguish over Judah’s Desolation

19 aMy anguish, my anguish! I writhe in pain!
Oh the walls of my heart!
My heart is beating wildly;
I cannot keep silent,
for I hear the sound of the trumpet,
the alarm of war.
20 bCrash follows hard on crash;
the whole land is laid waste.
cSuddenly my tents are laid waste,
my curtains in a moment.
21How long must I see the standard
and hear the sound of the trumpet?
22 For dmy people are foolish;
they know me not;
they are stupid children;
they have no understanding.
eThey are ‘wise’—in doing evil!
But how to do good they know not.”

Jeremiah 5:1

Jerusalem Refused to Repent

1 fRun to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem,
look and take note!
Search her squares to see
gif you can find a man,
one who does justice
and seeks truth,
hthat I may pardon her.

Jeremiah 5:6

6 Therefore ia lion from the forest shall strike them down;

Jeremiah 5:15-17

15 mBehold, I am bringing against you
a nation from afar, O house of Israel,

declares the Lord.
It is an enduring nation;
it is an ancient nation,
a nation whose language you do not know,
nnor can you understand what they say.
16 oTheir quiver is like pan open tomb;
they are all mighty warriors.
17 qThey shall eat up your harvest and your food;
they shall eat up your sons and your daughters;
they shall eat up your flocks and your herds;
they shall eat up your vines and your fig trees;
your rfortified cities in which you trust
they shall beat down with the sword.”

Jeremiah 6:6-7

6 For thus says the Lord of hosts:
s“Cut down her trees;
tcast up a siege mound against Jerusalem.
This is the city that must be upunished;
there is nothing but oppression within her.
7 vAs a well keeps its water fresh,
so she keeps fresh her evil;
wviolence and destruction are heard within her;
sickness and wounds are ever before me.

I will not pity or spare or have compassion, that I should not destroy them.’”

Jeremiah 15:1-4

The Lord Will Not Relent

1Then the Lord said to me, af“Though agMoses ahand Samuel aistood before me, yet my heart would not turn toward this people. Send them out of my sight, and let them go! 2And when they ask you, ‘Where shall we go?’ you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord:

aj“‘Those who are for pestilence, to pestilence,
and those who are for the sword, to the sword;
those who are for famine, to famine,
and those who are for captivity, to captivity.’
3 akI will appoint over them four kinds of destroyers, declares the Lord: the sword to kill, the dogs to tear, and althe birds of the air amand the beasts of the earth to devour and destroy. 4 anAnd I will make them a horror to all the kingdoms of the earth because of what aoManasseh the son of Hezekiah, king of Judah, did in Jerusalem.
