Jeremiah 4:19-22

Anguish over Judah’s Desolation

19 aMy anguish, my anguish! I writhe in pain!
Oh the walls of my heart!
My heart is beating wildly;
I cannot keep silent,
for I hear the sound of the trumpet,
the alarm of war.
20 bCrash follows hard on crash;
the whole land is laid waste.
cSuddenly my tents are laid waste,
my curtains in a moment.
21How long must I see the standard
and hear the sound of the trumpet?
22 For dmy people are foolish;
they know me not;
they are stupid children;
they have no understanding.
eThey are ‘wise’—in doing evil!
But how to do good they know not.”

Jeremiah 6:22-24

22 Thus says the Lord:
fBehold, a people is coming gfrom the north country,
a great nation is stirring from hthe farthest parts of the earth.
23They lay hold on bow and javelin;
they are icruel and have no mercy;
jthe sound of them is like the roaring sea;
they ride on horses,
set in array as a man for battle,
against you, O daughter of Zion!”
24We have heard the report of it;
kour hands fall helpless;
anguish has taken hold of us,
lpain as of a woman in labor.

Jeremiah 8:15-16

15 mWe looked for peace, but no good came;
for a time of healing, but behold, terror.
16 n“The snorting of their horses is heard ofrom Dan;
at the sound of the neighing pof their stallions
qthe whole land quakes.
They come rand devour the land and all that fills it,
the city and those who dwell in it.

Jeremiah 47:6

6 sAh, sword of the Lord!
How long till you are quiet?
Put yourself into your scabbard;
rest and be still!

Ezekiel 7:24-26

24I will bring tthe worst of the nations to take possession of their houses. uI will put an end to the pride of the strong, vand their holy places
By revocalization (compare Septuagint); Hebrew  and those who sanctify them
shall be profaned.
25 xWhen anguish comes, ythey will seek peace, but there shall be none. 26 zDisaster comes upon disaster; aarumor follows rumor. abThey seek a vision from the prophet, while acthe law
Or instruction
perishes from the priest and aecounsel from the elders.

Ezekiel 14:17-21

17Or afif I bring a sword upon that land and say, Let a sword pass through the land, agand I cut off from it man and beast, 18 ahthough these three men were in it, as I live, declares the Lord God, they would deliver neither sons nor daughters, but they alone would be delivered.

19Or aiif I send a pestilence into that land and pour out my wrath upon it with blood, to cut off from it man and beast, 20even if Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it, as I live, declares the Lord God, they would deliver neither son nor daughter. They would deliver but their own lives by their righteousness.

21For thus says the Lord God: How much more ajwhen I send upon Jerusalem my four disastrous acts of judgment, aksword, alfamine, amwild beasts, and anpestilence, to cut off from it man and beast!
