Jeremiah 42:2-6

2and said to Jeremiah the prophet, “Let aour plea for mercy come before you, and bpray to the Lord your God for us, for all cthis remnantdbecause we are left with but a few, as your eyes see us— 3that ethe Lord your God may show us the way we should go, and the thing that we should do.” 4Jeremiah the prophet said to them, “I have heard you. Behold, I will pray to the Lord your God according to your request, and fwhatever the Lord answers you I will tell you. gI will keep nothing back from you.” 5Then they said to Jeremiah, h“May the Lord be a true and ifaithful witness against us jif we do not act according to all the word kwith which the Lord your God sends you to us. 6Whether it is good or bad, we will obey the voice of the Lord our God to whom we are sending you, lthat it may be well with us when we obey the voice of the Lord our God.”

3 mSon of man, these men have taken their idols into their hearts, and set nthe stumbling block of their iniquity before their faces. oShould I indeed let myself be consulted by them?

1 pIn the seventh year, in the fifth month, on the tenth day of the month, certain of qthe elders of Israel came to inquire of the Lord, rand sat before me. 2And the word of the Lord came to me: 3 sSon of man, speak to the elders of Israel, and say to them, Thus says the Lord God, Is it to inquire of me that you come? tAs I live, declares the Lord God, uI will not be inquired of by you.
