Jeremiah 47

Judgment on the Philistines

1The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet aconcerning the Philistines, before Pharaoh struck down bGaza.

2 Thus says the Lord:
cBehold, waters are rising dout of the north,
eand shall become an overflowing torrent;
they shall overflow fthe land and all that fills it,
the city and those who dwell in it.
Men shall cry out,
and every inhabitant of the land shall wail.
3At the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his stallions,
gat the rushing of his chariots, at the rumbling of their wheels,
the fathers hlook not back to their children,
so feeble are their hands,
4because of the day that is coming to destroy
all ithe Philistines,
to cut off from jTyre and Sidon
every helper that remains.
For the Lord is destroying the Philistines,
kthe remnant of the coastland of lCaphtor.
5 mBaldness has come upon Gaza;
nAshkelon has perished.
O remnant of their valley,
ohow long will you gash yourselves?
6 pAh, sword of the Lord!
How long till you are quiet?
Put yourself into your scabbard;
rest and be still!
7How can it
Septuagint, Vulgate; Hebrew you
be quiet
rwhen the Lord has given it a charge?
Against sAshkelon and against the seashore
the has appointed it.”

Ezekiel 25:15-17

Prophecy Against Philistia

15Thus says the Lord God: Because uthe Philistines vacted revengefully and took vengeance wwith malice of soul to destroy in never-ending enmity, 16therefore thus says the Lord God, xBehold, I will stretch out my hand against the Philistines, and I will cut off ythe Cherethites and destroy the rest of the seacoast. 17I will execute great vengeance on them zwith wrathful rebukes. aaThen they will know that I am the Lord, when I lay my vengeance upon them.”

Amos 1:6-8

ab“For three transgressions of acGaza,
and for four, I will not revoke the punishment,
because adthey carried into exile a whole people
to deliver them up to Edom.
7So I will send a fire upon the wall of aeGaza,
and it shall devour her strongholds.
8I will cut off the inhabitants from afAshdod,
and him who holds the scepter from Ashkelon;
I will turn my hand against Ekron,
and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish,”
