40 I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter,
like rams and male goats.
41 “How ^gBabylon ^{▼▼Hebrew Sheshach, a code name for Babylon} is taken,
ⁱthe praise of the whole earth ^jseized!
How Babylon has become
a horror among the nations!
42 ^kThe sea has come up on Babylon;
she is covered with its tumultuous waves.
43 Her cities have become a horror,
^la land of drought and a desert,
^ma land in which no one dwells,
and through which no son of man passes.

Jeremiah 51:53-57

53 Though Babylon should ⁿmount up to heaven,
and though she should ^ofortify her strong height,
yet destroyers would come from me against her,
declares the Lord.
54 ^p“A voice! A cry from Babylon!
The noise of great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans!
55 For the Lord is laying Babylon waste
and stilling her mighty voice.
^qTheir waves roar like many waters;
the noise of their voice is raised,
56 for a destroyer has come upon her,
upon Babylon;
her warriors are taken;
their bows are broken in pieces,
^rfor the Lord is a God of recompense;
he will surely repay.
57 ^sI will make drunk her officials and her wise men,
^ther governors, her commanders, and her warriors;
they shall sleep a perpetual sleep and not wake,
declares ^uthe King, whose name is the Lord of hosts.

Ezekiel 32:18-32

18 ^v“Son of man, ^wwail over ^xthe multitude of Egypt, and ^ysend them down, her and the daughters of majestic nations, ^zto the world below, to those who have gone down to the pit:

19 ^aa‘Whom do you surpass in beauty?
Go down and ^abbe laid to rest with the uncircumcised.’
20 They shall fall amid those ^acwho are slain by the sword. Egypt ^{▼▼Hebrew She} is delivered to the sword; drag her away, and ^aeall her multitudes. 21 The mighty chiefs ^afshall speak of them, ^agwith their helpers, out of the midst of Sheol: ‘They have come down, they lie still, ^ahthe uncircumcised, ^aislain by the sword.’

22 ^aj“Assyria is there, and all her company, ^akits graves all around it, all of them slain, fallen by the sword, 23 whose graves are set in ^althe uttermost parts of the pit; and her company is all around her grave, all of them slain, fallen by the sword, ^amwho spread terror ^anin the land of the living.

24 ^ao“Elam is ^apthere, and all her multitude around her grave; all of them ^aqslain, fallen by the sword, who went down uncircumcised into ^arthe world below, who spread their terror in the land of the living; and ^asthey bear their shame ^atwith those who go down to the pit. 25 ^auThey have made her a bed among the slain with all her multitude, ^avher graves all around it, all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword; for terror of them was spread in the land of the living, and they bear their shame with those who go down to the pit; they are placed among the slain.

26 ^aw“Meshech-Tubal is ^axthere, and all her multitude, ^ayher graves all around it, all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword; for they spread their terror in the land of the living. 27 And ^azthey do not lie with the mighty, the fallen from among the uncircumcised, who went down to Sheol with their weapons of war, whose swords were laid under their heads, and whose iniquities are upon their bones; for the terror of the mighty men was in the land of the living. 28 But as for you, you shall be broken ^baand lie among the uncircumcised, with those who are slain by the sword.

29 ^bb“Edom is ^bcthere, her kings and all her princes, who for all their might are laid with those who are killed by the sword; they lie with the uncircumcised, with those who go down to the pit.

30 “The princes ^bdof the north are there, all of them, and all the ^beSidonians, who have gone down in shame with the slain, ^bffor all the terror that they caused by their might; they lie uncircumcised with those who are slain by the sword, and ^bgbear their shame with those who go down to the pit.

31 “When Pharaoh sees them, he ^bhwill be comforted for ^biall his multitude, Pharaoh and all his army, slain by the sword, declares the Lord God. 32 ^bjFor I spread terror ^bkin the land of the living; and he shall be laid to rest among ^blthe uncircumcised, with those who are slain by the sword, Pharaoh and all his multitude, declares the Lord God.”

Ezekiel 38:9-23

9 You will advance, coming on ^bmlike a storm. You will be ^bnlike a cloud covering the land, you and all your ^bohordes, and many peoples with you.

10 “Thus says the Lord God: On that day, ^bpthoughts will come into your mind, and you will devise an evil scheme 11 and say, ‘I will go up against ^bqthe land of unwalled villages. I will fall upon ^brthe quiet people who dwell securely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having no bars or gates,’ 12 to seize spoil and carry off plunder, to turn your hand against ^bsthe waste places that are now inhabited, and ^btthe people who were gathered from the nations, who have acquired livestock and goods, ^buwho dwell at the center of the earth. 13 ^bvSheba and ^bwDedan and the merchants of Tarshish and all ^bxits leaders ^{▼▼Hebrew young lions} will say to you, ‘Have you come to seize spoil? Have you assembled your hosts to carry off plunder, to carry away silver and gold, to take away livestock and goods, to seize great spoil?’

14 “Therefore, ^bzson of man, prophesy, and say to ^caGog, Thus says the Lord God: On that day when my people Israel are ^cbdwelling securely, ^ccwill you not know it? 15 You will come from your place out of ^cdthe uttermost parts of the north, you and ^cemany peoples with you, ^cfall of them riding on horses, a great host, a mighty army. 16 You will come up against my people Israel, ^cglike a cloud covering the land. ^chIn the latter days I will bring you against my land, that the nations may know me, when through you, O Gog, ^ciI vindicate my holiness before their eyes.

17 “Thus says the Lord God: Are you ^cjhe of whom I spoke in former days by my servants the prophets of Israel, who in those days prophesied for years that I would bring you against them? 18 But on that day, the day that Gog shall come against the land of Israel, declares the Lord God, ^ckmy wrath will be roused in my anger. 19 For ^clin my jealousy and in my blazing wrath I declare, On that day ^cmthere shall be a great earthquake in the land of Israel. 20 ^cnThe fish of the sea and the birds of the heavens and the beasts of the field and all creeping things that creep on the ground, and all the people who are on the face of the earth, ^coshall quake at my presence. And ^cpthe mountains shall be thrown down, and the cliffs shall fall, and every wall shall tumble to the ground. 21 ^cqI will summon a sword against Gog ^{▼▼Hebrew against him} on all my mountains, declares the Lord God. ^csEvery man’s sword will be against his brother. 22 With pestilence and bloodshed ^ctI will enter into judgment with him, and ^cuI will rain upon him and ^cvhis hordes and the many peoples who are with him ^cwtorrential rains and hailstones, ^cxfire and sulfur. 23 So I will show my greatness and my ^cyholiness and ^czmake myself known in the eyes of many nations. Then ^dathey will know that I am the Lord.

Ezekiel 39:1-10

1 “And you, ^dbson of man, ^dcprophesy against ^ddGog and say, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, ^deI am against you, O Gog, ^dfchief prince of ^dgMeshech ^{▼▼Or Gog, prince of Rosh, Meshech} and ^diTubal. 2 ^djAnd I will turn you about and drive you forward, and bring you up from ^dkthe uttermost parts of the north, and lead you against the ^dlmountains of Israel. 3 Then ^dmI will strike your bow from your left hand, and ^dnwill make your arrows drop out of your right hand. 4 ^doYou shall fall on ^dpthe mountains of Israel, you and all your ^dqhordes and the peoples who are with you. ^drI will give you to birds of prey of every sort and to the beasts of the field to be devoured. 5 You shall fall in the open field, for ^dsI have spoken, declares the Lord God. 6 ^dtI will send fire on ^duMagog and on those ^dvwho dwell securely in ^dwthe coastlands, and ^dxthey shall know that I am the Lord.

7 “And ^dymy holy name I will make known in the midst of my people Israel, and ^dzI will not let my holy name be profaned anymore. And ^eathe nations shall know that I am ^ebthe Lord, the Holy One in Israel. 8 ^ecBehold, it is coming and it will be brought about, declares the Lord God. That is the day ^edof which I have spoken.

9 “Then those who dwell in the cities of Israel will go out and ^eemake fires of the weapons and burn them, shields and bucklers, bow and arrows, ^efclubs ^{▼▼Or javelins} and spears; and they will make fires of them for seven years, 10 so that they will not need to take wood out of the field or cut down any out of the forests, for ^ehthey will make their fires of the weapons. ^eiThey will seize the spoil of those who despoiled them, and plunder those who plundered them, declares the Lord God.

Daniel 7:23-27

23 “Thus he said: ‘As for ^ejthe fourth beast,

there shall be a fourth kingdom on earth,
which shall be different from all the kingdoms,
and it shall devour the whole earth,
and trample it down, and break it to pieces.
24 As for the ten horns,
out of this kingdom ten kings shall arise,
and another shall arise after them;
he shall be different from the former ones,
and shall put down three kings.
25 ^ekHe shall speak words against the Most High,
and shall wear out the saints of the Most High,
and shall think to ^elchange the times and the law;
and they shall be given into his hand
for ^ema time, times, and half a time.
26 ^enBut the court shall sit in judgment,
and ^eohis dominion shall be taken away,
to be consumed and destroyed ^epto the end.
27 ^eqAnd the kingdom and the dominion
and the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heaven
shall be given to the people of ^erthe saints of the Most High;
^eshis kingdom shall be an everlasting kingdom,
