Jeremiah 51:41-43

41 How aBabylon
Hebrew Sheshach, a code name for Babylon
is taken,
cthe praise of the whole earth dseized!
How Babylon has become
a horror among the nations!
42 eThe sea has come up on Babylon;
she is covered with its tumultuous waves.
43Her cities have become a horror,
fa land of drought and a desert,
ga land in which no one dwells,
and through which no son of man passes.

Nahum 2:9-10

9Plunder the silver,
plunder the gold!
There is no end of the treasure
or of the wealth of all precious things.
10 hDesolate! Desolation and ruin!
iHearts melt and jknees tremble;
kanguish is in all loins;
lall faces grow pale!

Revelation of John 18:16-19

16 Alas, alas, for the great city
mthat was clothed in fine linen,
in purple and scarlet,
adorned with gold,
with jewels, and with pearls!
17For nin a single hour all this wealth ohas been laid waste.”
And pall shipmasters and seafaring men, sailors and all whose trade is on the sea, stood far off
18and qcried out ras they saw the smoke of her burning,

sWhat city was like the great city?”
19And they threw tdust on their heads as they wept and mourned, crying out,

Alas, alas, for the great city
uwhere all who had ships at sea
grew rich by her wealth!
