Jeremiah 52:8-11

8But the army of the Chaldeans pursued the king and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho, and all his army was scattered from him. 9Then they captured the king and brought him up to the king of Babylon at Riblah in the land of Hamath, and he passed sentence on him. 10The king of Babylon slaughtered the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes, and also slaughtered all the officials of Judah at aRiblah. 11 bHe put out the eyes of Zedekiah, and bound him in chains, and the king of Babylon took him to Babylon, and put him in prison ctill the day of his death.

11Say, gI am a sign for you: has I have done, so shall it be done to them. They shall go into exile, into captivity.’ 12 iAnd the prince who is among them shall lift his baggage upon his shoulder at dusk, and shall go out. jThey shall dig through the wall to bring him out through it. kHe shall cover his face, that he may not see the land with his eyes. 13 lAnd I will spread my net over him, and he shall be taken in my snare. And mI will bring him to Babylon, the land of the Chaldeans, nyet he shall not see it, and he shall die there. 14 oAnd I will scatter toward every wind all who are around him, his helpers and all his troops, pand I will unsheathe the sword after them. 15 qAnd they shall know that I am the Lord, when I disperse them among the nations and scatter them among the countries. 16 rBut I will let a few of them escape from the sword, from famine and pestilence, that they may declare all their abominations among the nations where they go, sand may know that I am the Lord.”

17And the word of the Lord came to me: 18 tSon of man, ueat your bread with quaking, and drink water with trembling and with anxiety. 19And say to the people of the land, Thus says the Lord God concerning the inhabitants of Jerusalem in the land of Israel: vThey shall eat their bread with anxiety, wand drink water in dismay. In this way xher land will be stripped of all it contains, yon account of the violence of all those who dwell in it. 20 zAnd the inhabited cities shall be laid waste, and the land shall become a desolation; and you shall know that I am the Lord.”

15 adBut he rebelled against him by sending his ambassadors aeto Egypt, that they might give him horses and a large army. afWill he thrive? Can one escape who does such things? Can he agbreak the covenant and yet escape?

16 ah“As I live, declares the Lord God, surely aiin the place where the king dwells ajwho made him king, whose oath he despised, and whose covenant with him he broke, in Babylon he shall die. 17 akPharaoh with his mighty army and great company will not help him in war, alwhen mounds are cast up and siege walls built to cut off many lives. 18He despised the oath in breaking the covenant, and behold, he gave his hand and did all these things; he shall not escape. 19Therefore thus says the Lord God: As I live, surely it is my oath that he despised, and my covenant that he broke. I will return it upon his head. 20 amI will spread my net over him, and he shall be taken in my snare, and I will bring him to Babylon anand enter into judgment with him there aofor the treachery he has committed against me. 21And all the pick
