13 aFor from the least to the greatest of them,
everyone bis greedy for unjust gain;
and from cprophet to priest,

14They have healed the wound of my people lightly,
saying, dPeace, peace,’
ewhen there is no peace.

Jeremiah 8:10

10 fTherefore I will give their wives to others
and their fields to conquerors,

Jeremiah 14:13-15

Lying Prophets

13Then I said: “Ah, Lord God, behold, the prophets hsay to them, ‘You shall not see the sword, nor shall you have famine, but I will give you assured peace in this place.’” 14And the Lord said to me: “The iprophets are prophesying lies in my name. jI did not send them, nor did I command them or speak to them. They are prophesying to you a lying vision, kworthless divination, and lthe deceit of their own minds. 15Therefore thus says the Lord concerning the prophets who prophesy in my name although mI did not send them, and who say, nSword and famine shall not come upon this land’: oBy sword and famine those prophets shall be consumed.

Jeremiah 23:2

2Therefore thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, concerning pthe shepherds who care for my people: “You have scattered my flock and have driven them away, and you have not attended to them. qBehold, I will attend to you for your evil deeds, declares the Lord.

Jeremiah 23:11-22

11 rBoth prophet and priest are ungodly;
even sin my house I have found their evil,

declares the Lord.
12 tTherefore their way shall be to them
like slippery paths uin the darkness,
into which they shall be driven and fall,
for I will bring disaster upon them
vin the year of their punishment,

declares the Lord.
13In the prophets of wSamaria
xI saw an unsavory thing:
ythey prophesied by Baal
zand led my people Israel astray.
14But in the prophets of Jerusalem
I have seen a horrible thing:
aathey commit adultery and walk in lies;
abthey strengthen the hands of evildoers,
so that no one turns from his evil;
acall of them have become like Sodom to me,
adand its inhabitants like Gomorrah.”
15Therefore thus says the Lord of hosts concerning the prophets:
aeBehold, I will feed them with bitter food
afand give them agpoisoned water to drink,
for from the prophets of Jerusalem
ungodliness has gone out into all the land.”
16Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you, ahfilling you with vain hopes. aiThey speak visions of their own minds, not from the mouth of the Lord. 17They say continually to those who despise the word of the Lord, aj‘It shall be well with you’; and to everyone who akstubbornly follows his own heart, they say, alNo disaster shall come upon you.’”

18 For amwho among them has stood in the council of the Lord
to see and to hear his word,
or who has paid attention to his word and listened?
19 anBehold, the storm of the Lord!
Wrath has gone forth,
aoa whirling tempest;
it will burst upon the head of the wicked.
20 apThe anger of the Lord will not turn back
until he has executed and aqaccomplished
the intents of his heart.
arIn the latter days you will understand it clearly.
21 as“I did not send the prophets,
yet they ran;
I did not speak to them,
yet they prophesied.
22 atBut if they had stood in my council,
then they would have proclaimed my words to my people,
auand they would have turned them from their evil way,
and avfrom the evil of their deeds.

Jeremiah 23:25-26

25I have heard what the prophets have said awwho prophesy lies in my name, saying, ax‘I have dreamed, I have dreamed!’ 26How long shall there be lies in the heart of aythe prophets who prophesy lies, and who prophesy the deceit of their own heart,

Jeremiah 27:14

14 azDo not listen to the words of the prophets who are saying to you, ‘You shall not serve the king of Babylon,’ bafor it is a lie that they are prophesying to you.

Jeremiah 27:18

18If they are prophets, and if the word of the Lord is with them, then bblet them intercede with the Lord of hosts, bcthat the vessels that are left in the house of the Lord, in the house of the king of Judah, and in Jerusalem may not go to Babylon.

Jeremiah 28:12-17

12Sometime after the prophet bdHananiah had broken the yoke-bars from off the neck of Jeremiah the prophet, the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah: 13Go, tell Hananiah, ‘Thus says the Lord: You have broken wooden bars, but you have made in their place bars of iron. 14For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: I have put upon the neck of all these nations bean iron yoke to serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, bfand they shall serve him, bgfor I have given to him even the beasts of the field.’” 15And Jeremiah the prophet said to the prophet Hananiah, “Listen, Hananiah, bhthe Lord has not sent you, biand you have made this people trust in a lie. 16Therefore thus says the Lord: ‘Behold, I will remove you from the face of the earth. This year you shall die, bjbecause you have uttered rebellion against the Lord.’”

17In that same year, in the seventh month, the prophet Hananiah died.
