Job 1:15-19

15and athe Sabeans fell upon them and took them and struck down the servants
Hebrew  the young men; also verses 16, 17
with the edge of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you.”
16While he was yet speaking, there came another and said, c“The fire of God fell from heaven and burned up the sheep and the servants and consumed them, and I alone have escaped to tell you.” 17While he was yet speaking, there came another and said, d“The Chaldeans formed ethree groups and made a raid on the camels and took them and struck down the servants with the edge of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you.” 18While he was yet speaking, there came another and said, f“Your sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house, 19and behold, a great wind came across gthe wilderness and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young people, and they are dead, and I alone have escaped to tell you.”

Job 29:5-25

5when the Almighty was yet with me,
when my hchildren were all around me,
6when my steps were iwashed with jbutter,
and kthe rock poured out for me streams of loil!
7When I went out to mthe gate of the city,
when I prepared my seat in the square,
8the young men saw me and withdrew,
and the aged rose and stood;
9the princes refrained from talking
and nlaid their hand on their mouth;
10the voice of the nobles was hushed,
and their otongue stuck to the roof of their mouth.
11When the ear heard, it called me blessed,
and when the eye saw, it approved,
12because I pdelivered the poor who cried for help,
and the fatherless who had none to help him.
13 qThe blessing of him who was rabout to perish came upon me,
and I caused sthe widow’s heart to sing for joy.
14I tput on righteousness, and it clothed me;
my justice was like a robe and ua turban.
15I was veyes to the blind
and feet to the lame.
16I was a father to the needy,
and I searched out wthe cause of him whom I did not know.
17I xbroke ythe fangs of the unrighteous
and made him drop his prey from his teeth.
18 zThen I thought, ‘I shall die in my aanest,
and I shall multiply my days as abthe sand,
19my acroots spread out to adthe waters,
with the dew all night on my aebranches,
20my glory fresh with me,
and my afbow ever agnew in my hand.’
21 “Men listened to me and waited
and kept silence for my counsel.
22After I spoke they did not speak again,
and my word ahdropped upon them.
23They waited for me as for the rain,
and they aiopened their mouths as for the ajspring rain.
24I smiled on them when they had no confidence,
and akthe light of my alface they did not cast down.
25I chose their way and sat as chief,
and I lived like ama king among his troops,
like one who comforts mourners.
