1 Ah, the proud crown of bthe drunkards of Ephraim,
and the fading flower of its glorious beauty,

like a storm of hail, a destroying tempest,
like da storm of mighty, overflowing waters,
he casts down to the earth with his hand.
3 eThe proud crown of the drunkards of Ephraim
will be trodden underfoot;
4 fand the fading flower of its glorious beauty,

will be like ga first-ripe fig before the summer:
when someone sees it, he swallows it
as soon as it is in his hand.

Because of the wickedness of their deeds
I will drive them out of my house.
I will love them no more;

1 When Ephraim spoke, there was trembling;
aohe was exalted in Israel,
but he incurred guilt apthrough Baal and died.
2And now they sin more and more,
and aqmake for themselves metal images,
idols skillfully made of their silver,
arall of them the work of craftsmen.
It is said of them,
“Those who offer human sacrifice askiss calves!”
3Therefore they shall be atlike the morning mist
or aulike the dew that goes early away,
avlike the chaff that swirls from the threshing floor
or awlike smoke from a window.
