Job 14:7-12

7 “For there is hope for a tree,
if it be cut down, that it will sprout again,
and that its shoots will not cease.
8 Though its root grow old in the earth,
and ^aits stump die in the soil,
9 yet at the scent of water it will bud
and put out ^bbranches like a young plant.
10 But a man dies and is laid low;
man breathes his last, and ^cwhere is he?
11 ^dAs waters fail from a lake
and a river wastes away and dries up,
12 so a man lies down and rises not again;
till ^ethe heavens are no more he will not awake
or be ^froused out of his sleep.

Psalms 6:5

5 For in ^gdeath there is no remembrance of you;
in Sheol who will give you praise?

Psalms 88:10-12

10 Do you work wonders for the dead?
^hDo the departed rise up to praise you? Selah
11 Is your steadfast love declared in the grave,
or your faithfulness in Abaddon?
12 Are your ⁱwonders known in ^jthe darkness,
or your righteousness in the land of ^kforgetfulness?

Ecclesiastes 9:5-6
