Job 21:24-30

24his pails
The meaning of the Hebrew word is uncertain
full of milk
and bthe marrow of his bones moist.
25Another dies in cbitterness of soul,
never having tasted of prosperity.
26They dlie down alike in the dust,
and ethe worms cover them.
27 Behold, I know your thoughts
and your schemes to wrong me.
28For you say, fWhere is the house of the prince?
Where is gthe tent in which the wicked lived?’
29Have you not asked those who travel the roads,
and do you not accept their testimony
30that hthe evil man is spared in the day of calamity,
that he is rescued in the day of wrath?

Psalms 37:35-36

35 iI have seen a wicked, ruthless man,
spreading himself like ja green laurel tree.
The identity of this tree is uncertain

36But he passed away,
Or  But one passed by
and behold, mhe was no more;
though I sought him, he could not be found.

Psalms 49:6-14

6those who ntrust in their wealth
and boast of the abundance of their riches?
7Truly no man ocan ransom another,
or pgive to God qthe price of his life,
8for rthe ransom of their life is costly
and can never suffice,
9that he should live on forever
and snever see the pit.
10 For he sees tthat even the wise die;
uthe fool and the stupid alike must perish
and vleave their wealth to others.
11Their wgraves are their homes forever,
Septuagint, Syriac, Targum; Hebrew  Their inward thought was that their homes were forever

their dwelling places yto all generations,
though they zcalled lands by their own names.
12Man in his pomp aawill not remain;
abhe is like the beasts that perish.
13 This is the path of those who have acfoolish confidence;
yet after them people approve of their boasts.
Or and of those after them who approve of their boasts
 Selah
14Like sheep they are appointed for Sheol;
death shall be their shepherd,
and the upright aeshall rule over them in the morning.
afTheir form shall be consumed agin Sheol, with no place to dwell.

Psalms 73:18-20

18 Truly you set them in ahslippery places;
you make them fall to ruin.
19How they are destroyed aiin a moment,
swept away utterly by ajterrors!
20Like aka dream when one awakes,
O Lord, when alyou rouse yourself, you despise them as phantoms.

Ecclesiastes 5:15

15 amAs he came from his mother’s womb he shall go again, naked as he came, and shall take nothing for his toil that he may carry away in his hand.

James 5:1-7

Warning to the Rich

1Come now, anyou rich, weep and howl for the aomiseries that are coming upon you. 2 apYour riches have rotted and aqyour garments are moth-eaten. 3Your gold and silver have corroded, and their corrosion will be evidence against you and will eat your flesh like fire. arYou have laid up treasure asin the last days. 4Behold, atthe wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, are crying out against you, and authe cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of avthe Lord of hosts. 5 awYou have lived on the earth in luxury and axin self-indulgence. You have fattened your hearts in aya day of slaughter. 6You have condemned and azmurdered bathe righteous person. He does not resist you.

Patience in Suffering

7Be patient, therefore, brothers,
Or  brothers and sisters; also verses 9, 10, 12, 19
until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives bcthe early and the late rains.
