Job 21:7-15

7 aWhy do the wicked live,
reach old age, and grow mighty in power?
8Their boffspring are established in their presence,
and their descendants before their eyes.
9Their houses are csafe from fear,
and dno rod of God is upon them.
10Their bull breeds without fail;
their cow calves and edoes not miscarry.
11They send out their flittle boys like a flock,
and their children dance.
12They sing to gthe tambourine and hthe lyre
and rejoice to the sound of ithe pipe.
13They jspend their days in prosperity,
and in kpeace they go down to lSheol.
14They say to God, mDepart from us!
We do not desire the knowledge of your ways.
15 nWhat is the Almighty, that we should serve him?
And what oprofit do we get if we pray to him?’

Psalms 49:16-19

16 Be not afraid when a man becomes rich,
when the glory of his house increases.
17 tFor when he dies he will ucarry nothing away;
his glory will not go down after him.
18For though, while he lives, he counts himself vblessed
—and though you get praise when you do well for yourself—
19his soul will wgo to the generation of his fathers,
who will never again xsee light.

Psalms 73:3-12

3 yFor I was zenvious of the arrogant
when I saw the aaprosperity of the wicked.
4 For they have no pangs until death;
their bodies are fat and sleek.
5They are not in trouble as others are;
they are not abstricken like the rest of mankind.
6Therefore pride is actheir necklace;
violence covers them as ada garment.
7Their aeeyes swell out through fatness;
their hearts overflow with follies.
8They scoff and afspeak with malice;
loftily they threaten oppression.
9They set their mouths against the heavens,
and their tongue struts through the earth.
10Therefore his people turn back to them,
and find agno fault in them.

15And he said to them, am“Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” 16And he told them a parable, saying, an“The land of a rich man produced plentifully, 17and he thought to himself, aoWhat shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?’ 18And he said, ‘I will do this: I will tear down my apbarns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. 19And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have ample goods laid up aqfor many years; relax, areat, drink, be merry.”’ 20But God said to him, asFool! atThis night auyour soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, avwhose will they be?’ 21So is the one awwho lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.”

Luke 18:23-25

23 axBut when he heard these things, he became very sad, for he was extremely rich. 24Jesus, seeing that he had become sad, said, ayHow difficult it is for those who have wealth to enter azthe kingdom of God! 25For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter bathe kingdom of God.”
