8 aFor what is the hope of the godless bwhen God cuts him off,
when God takes away his life?

Psalms 22:4-5

4In you our fathers trusted;
they trusted, and you delivered them.
5To you they ccried and were rescued;
in you they dtrusted and were not put to shame.

Isaiah 28:15-18

15Because you have said, “We have made a covenant with death,
and with Sheol we have an agreement,
when the eoverwhelming whip passes through
it will not come to us,
for we have made flies our refuge,
and in falsehood we have taken shelter”;
16therefore thus says the Lord God,
gBehold, I am the one who has laid
Dead Sea Scroll  I am laying
as a foundation iin Zion,
a stone, a tested stone,
a precious cornerstone, of a sure foundation:
‘Whoever believes will not be in haste.’
17And I will make justice jthe line,
and righteousness kthe plumb line;
and hail will sweep away the refuge of lies,
and waters will overwhelm the shelter.”
18Then lyour covenant with death will be annulled,
and your agreement with Sheol will not stand;
when the overwhelming scourge passes through,
you will be beaten down by it.

Isaiah 45:16-17

16 mAll of them are put to shame and confounded;
the makers of idols go in confusion together.
17But Israel is saved by the Lord
with everlasting salvation;
nyou shall not be put to shame or confounded
to all eternity.

Isaiah 49:23

23 oKings shall be your foster fathers,
and their queens your nursing mothers.
pWith their faces to the ground they shall bow down to you,
and qlick the dust of your feet.
Then you will know that I am the Lord;
rthose who wait for me sshall not be put to shame.”

Jeremiah 17:5-8

5 Thus says the Lord:
Cursed is the man twho trusts in man
and makes flesh his strength,
Hebrew arm

whose heart turns away from the Lord.
6 vHe is like a shrub in the desert,
wand shall not see any good come.
He shall dwell in the parched places of the wilderness,
in xan uninhabited salt land.
7 yBlessed is the man who trusts in the Lord,
zwhose trust is the Lord.
8 aaHe is like a tree planted by water,
that sends out its roots by the stream,
and does not fear when heat comes,
for its leaves remain green,
and is not anxious in the year of drought,
for it does not cease to bear fruit.”
